I have just had a very successful test ride on the BMW R1200 GSA 2015 model ,and fell in love with it . one thing i did notice is how much shit goes thrown up by the front wheel and the rear wheel , i will definitely be getting a front fender extenda , but what works best a rear mudsling or rear hugger , and which make thanks . Also probably a silly question but does the GSA come with a toolkit , like my gixxxer does .
Would like to say a massive thankyou to wollaston BMW for excellent service and the loan of there test bike all day , really grew into the test ride , completely different to my gixxer but in a good way , felt no need to ride at a 100mph , although the BMW hides it speed well :beerjug:

I have the mudsling and personally think it looks better suited to the bike than a Hugger. whatever you choose it will not completely stop the muck so I think that infil panels are needed as well and could be my next purchase once my bank account has recovered from xmas.

anyway hope you enjoy your new purchase regards Nigel

Not able to comment on which is best but I've just fitted a mudsling to my gs and it's a definite improvement. The benefit of the mudsling is the ease of fitting, 10 minutes with four zip ties and it's done.

I tried both (all be it on a single cam) and the mud sling was way better. Both from, IMHO, an aesthetic point of view and in terms of keeping stuff clean.

Good guys at Woolastons! :thumby:

Get the Machine Art Mudsling & Fender Extender from Nippy.

Huggers don't work! Spray and muck comes off a tyre tangentially thus passing over the the top of a hugger. Machine art fender extender works really well and is also a 5 min job to fit.

I have often wondered if the rear abs guard thingy that hangs out the back end reflects the previously thrown water and crud back onto the tyre thus forcing it to be chucked out for a second time further around the wheel onto the bike sub-frame and passenger's legs etc..

Has any one experimented with removing it to compare the splash with and without it fitted?

I noticed that it also depends on what tyres you run. A3s are terrible at throwing up everything. Roadsmart2s were noticeably better.

I have recently joined the GS circus, 2015 GS, from 2 Triumph Sprints and last a Triumph Tiger Sport. They all enjoyed throwing dirt and muck all over. I think if there was muck 50 miles away it would find a way of getting all over those bikes. The GS is amazing for how little muck is thrown about over the bike. Looking at a mudsling just to protect the rear suspension bits a little better. The GS doesn't look like it would be any good at being a 'clean' bike but so far in my experience it is a ripper. If you want a dirty bike try a Triumph.

I tried a hugger and a Mudsling on my old 2009 GS. Both were an improvement over the coal scuttle, but the Mudsling was probably slightly better.

I have an Ilmberger carbon hugger on my GS LC as it doesn't block access to the subframe rail for chaining the bike to a ground anchor and it keeps legs and boots cleaner, but muck still gets thrown over the seat and rack, even with one of those little deflectors behind the number plate :blast

I have the mudsling and fender extender,i had them fitted from new,the fender works well, the mudsling still leaves the backs of my legs wet,if that's an improvement or not I couldn't say.i'm looking to get frame infills to see if that helps and by the time the tyres have been changed for pr4's hopefully that should improve matters.bloody good bike though, don't let that put you off

I have a fender extender on the front from eBay £5 I think. Frame infills from BMW and a rear Number plate "Lip" from Mark Hooton. What I do not have is that ugly piece of plastic on the back that BMW fit. Take it off and hang it up in the garage as it causes the crud to rotate around the back wheel and fly off into the bike. I don't have a mudsling only because I did not get around to buying one and realised that with what i already had, I had no need of it. I have no problems with crud in the last 2 years...

Just seen these on ebay, wonder how they compare to quality and price of BMW part..they look good.

do bmw do a frame infill kit?

Mine came from BMW parts catalogue. Not very expensive. Held on with cable ties but the one over the back brake reservoir can flip up to allow filling checking etc. As I say I don't have a mudsling but without that hoofing great piece of plastic over the back wheel today in the horrendous rain and crap it does not seem to need a mudsling as well. It was terrible at throwing crap over my right leg.before I took it off I will admit. Try it...you might save yourself the cost of very expensive piece of plastic that BMW should really fit as standard.
