After pondering the Mudsling -v- Hugger conundrum for some time and drinking from the font of wisdom that is this forum in order to inform the debate, I've eventually splashed out a whole lot of cash for what is effectively a bit of shaped plastic, two screws and a couple of cable ties :augie

My bike is a 2010 GSA with ESA. Has anyone kept the original BMW shock guard on the bike with the Machineartmoto Mudsling fitted (the one Nippy Norman flogs)? Any issues? I know the instruction sheet states 'If you have ESA, remove the stock guard for best clearance' but trawling the web has revealed pics with the guard both on and off.

Having offered the mudsling up tonight, they don't touch but there isn't an awful lot of air between the two either?

Ive left my shock guard on, as you say there isnt much room but ive covered 2500 miles on my 2010 with it fitted and it doesnt appear to have rubbed, no marks on hugger or shock guard, and does a great job of keeping shit of the rear shock and ESA:thumb
Tis a lot of money for a bit of plastic and cable ties but it works a treat, i found with a hugger fitted on my 1150gs it didnt really keep the crap of the shock.

Its just fine with the shock protector still in place...yes mot much rooom but enough is enough as they say! pricey? maybe but cheaper than that carbon fibre hugger crap i had before!

I kept my original cover on...there is enough room.

...but it does rub if you travel on a lot of rough terrain (6,000 miles in Ukraine!)....but it's only a rub....and my shock is as clean as a whistle. :thumb2

Yes .... my shock cover still in place too ..:thumb

Mudslinger

Took the original BMW rear spring cover off as I can clean around the spring easily with the Mudslinger in place. 6700 miles in 3 months on my GSA and all's well.

On a GSA with ESA, even the BMW spring cover will touch the mudslinger under heavy load (two up, laggage, camping gear):blast

Okay - the majority verdict appears to be leave it in place - so I shall. Thanks for the replies :beerjug:
