I want muffs for my 12GSA and pm'd Val to do the buying deed, got this message back...can someone help me decipher...:nenau technical things on a bike and I'm crap...:o

Gentlemen,

It has come to my attention that some of the newer 12ADV's have an extended/raised switch on the upper left handlebar for the auxiliary lights.
Unfortunately as I understand it the Velcro closure for the mirror on the Muffs will not meet with this switch fitted.

I have not tried to fit Muffs to a bike with this switch fitted myself so can't say for definite whether this is fact or not.

But feel I should warn you before you purchase your Muffs.

If there is any one in the north Wiltshire area who has one of the newer 1200ADV's with this switch fitted, who would be willing to have their bike act as Ginni pig so we can address this issue I would be grateful.

As for the older 1200ADV's with the switch fitted lower down the handlebars there will be no issue, the Muffs fit as normal.

here's some photos for my 12GSA (57 plate)

I think you'll find that the 06 GSAs had the extra light switch mounted on the left side of the bars, invoard of the switch gear and above the cross bar.........07 and later have a longer cross bar and the extra lights switch centrally mounted.

Are you sure you want muffs on your GS?

I've decided to be comfortable in being a big girl...:o....so the muffs will fit...:nenau

Like Jon said, it is the earlier 12GSA's that had a shorter cross bar and the aux light switch mounted up on the left. Later (from 07 *I think*) 12GSA's had the cross bar lengthened and so the switch is mounted centrally.

To clarify, as yours is an 07 and your pictures show no switch, the muffs will fit.

My 57 GSA has the extra lighting switch in the centre of the bars, so is well clear of the muffs

I fear that muffs will be difficult on an 08GSA becuse the hand guards have an extra deflector a bit like the Touratech ones... have they not? Plus the new fangled suspension switches will not allow closure of the muffs on the left hand side
:D

The actual 07 bikes had slightly deeper bars and a wider crossbar hence the revisions to the tank bags; the fog light switch was also moved to the centre of the bars.

But muffs over the hand guards and heated grips.......would you like a thick blanket to keep drafts off your legs too...some slippers and maybe a hot water bottle, lol !

oh man...I'm just living in a world of hard men...:ymca

:D

Mine is the early 12GSA with the extra large (afre thought) switch on left hand side of the bars.

Had muffs on last year, and where tight around the switch, but once on were fine.

Will let you know of any problems when I fit them again, when it gets colder.

:D

Apols matey, just found the Guards and Heated Grips combo plenty warm enough with a good set of Gloves; that said maybe I just do not feel the cold as much as still commuting in to London (50mile round trip) on a naked 500, with a small fly screen and standard grips!

All the best.

no worries...I used to ride into London for 11 months of the year with jeans on it was so warm, since I've moved back home, it's not the same....:o

Hey you got much snow up in Scotland at the moment; not seen anything here yet although I think there may have been a light dusting out in the depths of Essex!

Have only visited the west coast around Oban - Scuba Diving - absolutely stunning scenery; looking forward to a trip back on the bike in September.

my mate nearly killed himself with a set of muffs, the right hand one caught on the kill switch whilst he was overtaking. i'll settle for a set of pathans.
