Muffs!!

Thats right big furry muffs!! For handlebars obviously....what else.
Anyway my heated gloves which i do make fair use off out of winter have knackered after only two years, so instead i thought of getting handke bar muffs but need some advice if anyone is a user.
My r1100gs has hand guards an the usual set up ive seen a couple but some involve taking mirrors off and bar ends but what im really trying to find is something that can be strapped on and off with relative ease as some days are not to bad an i have just my gloves on, others i might go for a big ride.
Anyway thought id ask the hive minds as this forum always is most useful. Cheers

yes - available , Oxford do a reasonably priced set - which for me worked fine.

the Tucano Urbano R319 are the gold standard. Not made for some time. I had a set on my R1150GS and still have them today over 20 years since purchase. I used them when commuting on the GS, a Tracer and R1200RS. Retired now so do not use them as I choose not to ride in the cold & wet very often. Not selling though. Check Ebay or put a wanted post on here.

Givi used to make some heated ones that were good. Seem to have non heated ones now and under £60

These Wunderlich ones look similar to R319 but pricey like most stuff from the brand

Is that the super muffs? I like oxford gear its always served me well, i think because all are universal you dont know how they fit unless you ask

Yeah i heard of those a while back, i think that everone holds onto them haha. I tend not to go out it its awful weather but if its a bit cold eith the tight gear its no issue, but the widchill can get through the best of gloves sometimes. Great links ill check out both of those in detail

Tucano Cortina muffs are made for bikes with hand guards. They're a little fiddly to get on, so best left for the winter season. They do work, and the heated grips nicely heat the whole space, but the waterproof gator and elasticated drawstring didn't last long on mine.

Downsides - difficult to get dry after washing the bike. They also restrict movement a little and take up some room in the throttle grip particularly. Not terrible, but if you have large hands you may find you're resting against plastic.

I got lent a set of both (in fact I got the loan of three sets - different makes) , Very often you get what you pay for - but ... in this case I went out and bought the Oxford ones , I just could not see a marked difference in quality / fit etc. From memory I was able to buy them on ebay for about £32 vs £40 in the shop. I like supporting local , but difference was just far too much.

update - checked on line - type I bought about £27 vs 40 in shop. not sure how they would work with handguards already fitted - mine were going on to a standard CB500x (and may soon go on to a std NC750 x ??)

last time I had them on I did not notice any ill effect. However someone following said my brake light was on all the time. It seems the wind pushed the right one back enough to operate the switch.

shouldn't happen on a GS with handguards fitted, if you use the R319 type that go over the guards

I put Barkbuster Storm handguards on my R1200RS so I could use my Tucano R319 on the bike and not have the lever problem you describe.

Speaking of which when i went to pick my bike up from Williams in Manchester after its service the other week.
As i arrived the girl announced "Good news! we have lubed your shaft and who doesn't like that!" with a cheeky grin and a wink

haha Yeah R1100 gs indeed how did you know haha. To be fair Cortina makes a good point and has had the pleasure of trying a few out so im off to sportbike Birmingham 9am tomorrow to get my hands in some warm muff, of the oxford variety as im hoping they will let me try some to see how they fit the bike, i got touratech handguards which are quite big so be interesting to see if they can get round them.

Just got back from sports bike shop, where they kindly let me try the oxford super muffs on my bike which im glad they did as they were not suitable, they were budget but good and id imagine fit lots of other bikes however the issue became the indicator switches on most bikes its a stalk left bar on the bmws we have a switch on each side for thumbs to activate, this is where i had the issue especially throttle side it sat outside the material so would have been unusable so i think wonderlich are most likely going to be the ones as at least i know they are designed for bmw gs.

I have an old pair of the R323N.
The drawstrings just need replaced and as they have been sitting around probably stick them in a Tec wash.
I bought them second hand and fitted them to an 1100GS but just didn't like having my hands confined.
And sod that going out in cold, wet weather

Haha sod going out in the cold an wet.. thats what the gs was made for, thats really cracking of you pal most appreacated ill ping you a pm when in home, do they fit over all the gubbins or do you have to take half the handlebars apart? Not sure what they are ill have a look when home but if the fit a gs1100 that will do. Saying that im down the park with the kids and its roasting hot (midlands)
