Hi all,

Last month one of the multifunction switches on the left hand side of the handlebars stuck in, namely the "info" button, and today it's the turn of the "heated grips" switch on the right hand side.

The left hand one is now working ok ?
The right hand one works when it feels like it !

Bike is a 2012 plate and a couple of months out of warranty.
Is riding in the colder weather causing it or should I be lubing them with something ?

Cheers.

Call BMW, they might replace it as a good will gesture as it's only a couple of months beyond the end of the warranty. My dealer is replacing one of the heated grips that way as I'm a month out of warranty too (despite me asking several times about how to extend the warranty).

The electrics on the new bikes are shocking... thus far, I've had the LH controls go within 3 months of owning the bike, the ECU that controls the lights failed a few months ago and now obviously the RH heated grip has died. I've also had the rear brake master cylinder replaced as it was faulty and caused the rear brake to bind on (requiring replacement of the disc and pads too) and also had the chain replaced (probably a victim of the brakes binding). To top it off, I've also had to have the engine case and sump replaced as the paint was bubbling.

Love the bike, but the quality is shocking - mines been back at the dealer approximately every three months with one thing and another. Fortunately, my dealer (North Oxford) is fantastic and it's all been done under warranty but I'm very concerned at how much it's going to cost me to keep the bike on the road once the goodwill dries up if I can't get the warranty extended.

I spray silicon spray on all switches after washing or being out in the rain as the salt on the roads mixed with water tends to clog switches up if left

switch

my F700 GS, starter button jammed solid. under warranty, 2000 miles. 5 months old.
I had excellent service from my local dealer.

ACF 50 is great stuff - might be worth a squirt into the switches if you can get the spray into the switch. Helps protect against corrosion and salt ingress too. Way better than WD40 IMHO.

switchgear is the latest in a long line of inferior parts going on our beloved bikes. They have been breaking or sticking for a while now…I'm sure any decent dealer would replace yours as a goodwill gesture. Get them all changed if you can
