New 1250, can "Multifunction Indicator Lights" be coded out ?

Hi John g
When you fitted the full weiser_tech wizards extreme version kit with new indicators did you have to use a hex ezcan or did you put them straight onto the battery. Cheers for your help.
Take a look at just the way it is video on YT.

Hi Moofster,

I bought my kit direct from Weiser-tech and connected it as per their instructions with a direct fused line from the Battery and a connection into an "Ignition on" feed. Their instructions are very clear and had no problems. There is a video that goes all through the installation on the "Just the way it is" You Tube Channel.

To be clear, I bought the original complete kit that included new very bright Indicators and is not the "Wizard" version that came later.

Hope this helps.

John.

Today being a rare dry day we went down to Brighton on the RT for coffee and cake at the Hellenic Bakery… thoroughly recommended BTW.

On the way down we came up behind a GS 1250 with the multi rear light/indicator pack just as we came into a 30 limit.

Within 50 yards he braked and moved suddenly to his left, apparently without warning as far as I could see, and it was only as the distance between us rapidly closed and his brake lights came off that I saw the tiny left hand indicator flashing, which up until that point it was entirely washed out by the brake lights.

It was the first time I’d seen it in action, but had read of owners (now understandable) concerns. I’m sure it looked really pretty from the design angle but IMO a real danger, and would be enough for me to stump up £440 to get it sorted.

Following this thread as my friend said he couldn’t see me indicating until I braked and then he saw the indicator which seemed to be opposite to what people as saying here.
BMW options talk about multifunction lights I and upgrade to multifunction lights II

What is the difference?

Seems you can't have one without the other so not sure if it's a leftover from testing and development phase or what, but it's an oddity.

For the GS bikes with a centre light I find it best to reduce brake light intensity to 10% so that the multifunction red level is a constant intensity under running and braking conditions.
The centre light can either be left as brake only, or the option to use as low intensity running light could help with visibility.

For the sport bikes without centre lights it's not so clear what would be best. You can reduce the brake light intensity to avoid flooding out the indicators, but actually you REALLY want people to know if you're on the brakes!

In response the OP, I haven’t actually watched it but seem to remember seeing (scrolled past) a YouTube vid that had something along the line of this in its title… about coding indicators? They use the Hex GS-911. It might be worth looking into.

Is this still a BETA testing function, as I can’t see it as an option when connected to my 2021 GSA? (fitted with indicators as running lights).

Pretty sure you need ISTA program and software to code it out. It's free to download.

I suspect if you use BMW tools you will officially be removing the feature. That might require physically changing the fitted lights too.
With the GS-911 you could just customise light intensities to your liking. Customisation of the OEM lights is not offered on the BMW tools (even thought they developed the support for it. Go figure)

Just checked and it looks like it yes. It will be in full release early April.
Does the function to change the intensity of the running lights work on both the front and rear 'indicator' units whilst the main headlight running light unchanged? If so, it looks like an good solution.

I've got a December 2021 build 1250GS which has the "Multifunctional Indicator Lights" option.

This isn't something I'd have picked if I had the choice, and in practice I've found I don't like them at all. I feel there's a risk that other drivers will mistake the always-on front indicators for an actual signal, on a quick glance. Also the rear indicators are not as visible when the integrated brake light is on while signalling.

Does anyone know if there's a way for the dealership to turn this function off so they just work as normal indicators ? Obviously I will also ask when it goes in for the first service, but sometimes forums know things that dealers don't.

The GS911 diagnostic unit can now turn off the running lights on the 1250 and 1300 2024 onwards, both front and rear.

What's your query?

Since I started this thread, I'll just update that I had my bike reprogrammed using the recent GS-911 release, so it is now set up exactly how I want (i.e. like a 1200 or a 1250 without the "smart" indicators).

Any chance you can post a photo of the settings page on the GS-911?

I have the Aux lights too, so want to make sure that they continue to work, while the indicators are no longer on as running lights, and only work as standard indicators.

Cheers.

I've been watching this thread with interest as I have the multifunction lights and am keen to make sure that I am safe but I'm not sure that I'm missing something or not? I haven't seen them first hand whilst out on the road as obviously I'm riding my bike and I don't think I've followed one with the multifunction lights however I always signal before braking (I had mirror, signal, brake, manouevre drilled into me) so I would hope the person behond has seen the indicator first and therefore knows my intention. I understand the brake light then will wash out the indicator to a degree, but the fact that the driver has had the indicator light brought to their attention first they then should be more aware of it still flashing :nenau
