Must-ride roads in France?

Here’s some basic ideas, based on a not dissimilar jaunt I took. You’d need to reverse them and then hack them around I guess.

Note:

The roads from the north and west into Grenoble do (as a map shows) get bloody congested. I motorway from Lyon to Grenoble. But I ain’t a true bikermate ie. not someone who refuses to take a motorway and would rather be bored witless on crap A roads, for some bizarre reason.

If you return via Le Mans, I’d be maybe tempted to take the St Malo ferry to Portsmouth. There again, any of the Channel ports right up to Calais would work. But the Cherbourg peninsula is not that thrilling.

But hey, it’s your gig, not mine.

On my own, I went Millau to Uzes to Provence (Apt) in one hit. With a friend of mine in tow, we stopped overnight in Uzes. We then went on to Provence (Apt) the next day. Similarly, on my own I went from Provence (Apt) to Grenoble in a day, too. When I then went with my friend, we broke the journey into two parts.

PS I have no idea why route 1 is straight lines. I have mended it in post #23.

This is all great stuff - very grateful to everyone! I'll come back in a couple of months and let you know where I'm going (or maybe in three months and let you know where I went!)
