well many of you may know and for those who don,t i,ve owned my 1999 1100gs for a year,it came with a knackered remus system on it and a red ccp,i,ve replaced this with a straight throught link pipe and aftermarket end can and a biege ccp but my problem seems to be if you slowly rev the engine from idle the bike stumbles at various rpm levels?i,ve checked valves, tps and throttle sync and all seems well i,ve also tried running without ccp but the bike seems thirsty and bogs down, ive also fitted a co2 pot and dissconnected the lambda to no avail.the left t/body is ticking like a good un could this be my prob?or could this be down to the straight through system on it?THIS PROBLEMS REALLY STARTING TO PISS ME OFF:mad.if not sorted soon i think you,ll be seeing another gs on ebay.where do i start

I'd be very surprised if it was the ticking TB - I've heard 1100's that sound like diesels but still run fine.

My gut feeling (and it's no more than that) would be to look at the pipe. The trouble is that you've introduced a lot of variables with the lambda / CO pot / CCP tinkering.

If I were you, I'd see if you could beg or borrow a standard pipe (with headers) and get the CO pot set up using an analyser with the beige CCP fitted (I take it you used an analyser when you fitted your pot?). At least then you've ruled out a bunch of unknowns.

If this doesn't cure it, you're down to a systematic investigation of the fuelling and ignition system but at least you're starting from a known good exhaust / exhaust gas point. The trouble with trying a bunch of stuff all at the same time is that you lose your baseline and can start chasing your tail.

Bingo .

Best and fastest 1100GS i've ever ridden was my old loan bike.

Everything bog standard. ;) Which just about sums it up.

GS's run like a peach, if only the owners wouldn't tinkle with them.
And if you are going to have a tinkle, make sure it's all ok before trying to "improve" things. And only tinkle with one thing at a time so you can go back to how it was when it all goes Pete Tong.

I have returned mine to standard, why not place a wanted ad for a stock exhaust, i think someone was trying to give one away recently.

My 1100 is stock apart from my own made exhaust, and it goes like a fooking train:thumb2

Like Steptoe says, stop fecking about with it.Take it somewhere, and get it set right, then leave it alone until it stops altogether.

thanks for the replies lads, ill place an ad for a standard can,the bike did,nt run right when i bought it but if i were honest i think id have to say alot of my problems stem from been an ex streetfighter builder the demons keep wispering to me MAKE IT LOUDER,MAKE IT FASTER PUT A SMALL PLATE ON IT.i,m off to see a shrink the weekend to get it sorted:D:Dcheers

After having my bike apart i saw that the rubber o rings that seal the plastic air intake pipes to the carbs have stretched and got misshaped and don´t fit properly anymore allowing air to leak into the carbs resulting in an occasional hickup especially on tickover. will fix it soon. Just another small thing for you to check before you get onto the big stuff.

Take them off, cut off the excess and superglue the ends back together. Works a treat if you've no new spares to hand.

Check that the rubbers from the throttle bodies to the heads are good and if any doubt replace them

Check the vacuum pickup caps are good too

Air leaking in makes them cross ! Especially when fitted with a small plate!

My Bike didn't run as well as the one I had previously.. this one being a german import that apart from the exhaust system had been fully converted to UK spec.. so it had a UK headlamp and MPH clocks fitted when brand new... for its original owner.

However.. it kept the german exhaust... which had a CAT. Somewhere along the line this had died a horrible death.. and though the bike ran.. it wasn't 'right', fuel consumption was way too high and the end of the can would be very sooty after just 20 miles or less... and would often 'stumble'

It had no CCP.

I replaced the german exhaust with a nearly new UK spec. unplugged and removed the lamda wiring. Very oddly the bike already had a CO pot fitted,, which was set up correctly.

Once the exhaust changeover had been done the bike was transformed. fuel consumption was exactly as it should be... 200+ miles to the tank. no more soot and it pulled like a train right through the rev range.

I have left it completely alone... my theory being 'if it aint broke' two years later and the bike is fantastic.. exactly as my previous one was.

Have to admit I would love to put a lighter weight exhaust on... but I realise that this can open a whole can of worms.. Its clear from reading posts and chatting to other owners that 'some' bikes take the change over very well.. but some don't.

So.. completely 'standard' it is.. and this is how it will remain. :thumb2

.the left t/body is ticking like a good un could this be my prob?

The Throttle sensor is on that side I think that you may have to go for a base set up and put a little more slack in your cables so that the sensor isn;t jumping around and constantly changing the tickover injection parameters?

My 3rd GS (this 'een) stumbles at standstill slowy opening the throttle. What I try to do is not open the throttle until I go 'cos it does sound crap!!

The 11's are not usually like the 1150's for clean revving. The best 11's i have ridden have been the biggest mileage ones.

As stated, once you start buggering about it's hard to know where to end. I had a remus, K&N and Superchip on my 2nd GS and that worked great; a Laser set up on this one and it was crap and noisy. No 2 are exacly the same and thing for one might no work with another.

cheers lads:thumb.ive taken ccp out again because thats the best results i,m getting(surging wise)but feels like its running a bit rich.im gonna check these rubber seals around the intakes and jaythro what exactly do you mean by BASE SETTING
