...am seriously p*ssed off.
My final drive is knacked, and RGM has very kindly supplied a 2nd hand one and even lent me the tool overnight to pull off the wheel flange. Roy Gardner- top bloke.
Here's my problem- mine is an April 06 ADV- the part numbers on the FD's matched- the only difference being a mark in the casting that said K3/1 instead of K2/2. Both of them are stamped 31.11 and neither have a drain plug.
On fitting it, I noticed that when I put the ABS sensor in that the hole was very slightly larger and not the snug fit it was in the old one- I found an o-ring amongst the parts I had on the floor and fitted that. Now looks like it fits OK.
Have put it together, and test ridden it down the road. The speedo works fine, and the ABS warning light goes out as per normal, but when I drive approx 100 mtrs down the road the red triangle of death comes up with the brake failure light. I still have servo assistance. Once I turn the bike off and restart everything is normal until I drive 100 mtrs again.
I also now have an oil leak from the diff- now, its either a knackered inner seal on the 2nd hand drive or what I thought was the o-ring that seals the abs sender isn't the o-ring I wanted.
Why don't I just pull the rear wheel off I hear you say? Whilst taking the bike off the centre stand I noticed that there was a spare countersunk bolt I never knew I had, and that the stand caught underneath the bike. On looking at the bolt it has sheared in half- the other half being in the captive bolt that holds the centre stand. Have now had to take the centre stand off whilst I get a new bolt and sleeve.
Have been checking the individual part no's on my knackered final drive- on the main casing there is a part number of 7695344- the only match I can get on the microfiche for this is 7696344- which relates to a pre-08/06 housing (which my bike is). Looking at the black housing cover it has a number of 7695542- this relates to the housing cover POST 08/06.
Several questions now present themselves-
1. Have I got a hybrid final drive?
2. What speed sensor do I have as the two speed sensors are not interchangeable between pre/post 08/06 regardless of what size hole they have
3. Why am I getting the red triangle of death when my brakes still work OK?
4. Are there any o-ring sealing the speed sensor?
Please please please can anyone help me.....
