My arse is killing me....

About 100 grammes or summit. It's just a whoopie cusion in a cover which you blow into and it sits on the seat. After a few days of heavy use I suppose the stale farts add another 0.0002 grammes.

Sorry.:)

Height <> Weight ???:augie

Hehe. The suggested inflation for an airhawk is so that you're about 5mm off the seat. Any more and it's too hard, so it's probably less than 1cm including the rubber and covering. They are really good once you get used to them.

Airhawk

Rob
On Sunday when we met I was talking to Paintman (John) and he said he uses an Airhawk and swears by it. Might get myself one! Apparantly he ordered it from the states.
Regards

Yes they are very good and available in the UK from i believe Bikerbitz?

PS the 1200 seat is sh*t! and BMW don't wont to know, sold mine bought a KTM!.....bollocks to um!!:spitfire

Which size is best for the GS Jonny?

The standard GS seat is better with the height adjustment on the low back position and high front. That way it doesn't roll you forward onto your nuts all the time. Someone once said on here they get softer with age too, but I am still waiting however I have never had any long lasting pain from it. Once you hop off you are right to go again.

My 56GS seat was fine with no problem in the all high position but the 08 cripples me after about 2hrs. I now have it front up / back down and it is much better for longer periods. Lets see if they do break in.

The standard 1200GSA seat takes some getting used to and after 50 odd miles it does make you feel like you've spent a night with 'Shirley' on E-wing. I've just bought a Sargent low seat which is a big improvement and also lets me get both feet flat on the floor, but it was £280 and isn't as well made as a Corbin. The new peg position also takes some getting used to - it seems to push you further forward, which takes a few miles to adjust to, but all in all a good choice methinks...

A really cheap option is to fit a bead rider it works for me looks like I've nicked it from a cab drivers seat though:augie

http://www.beadrider.com/

In a US test looking at 10 aftermarket seat options the Airhawk was first, but the most expensive option in the test.... second were beads like bigbob1 mentions third was a fleese. beads and fleese were cheapest.

Unfortunately Migsel does not list a peg for the 1200 so no joy there :blast

I use a Sergent Low seat which I rate very highly on the comfort scale on my GS combined with a set of Fastway footpegs on their low setting which drops them by about an inch to compensate for the seat height reduction.

Have to say I rode with the Sergent fitted and the pegs at standard height for quite a with with no issues bu the lower setting just improves the comfort level IMPO.

standard GS seat on my 07 GSA is fine....did 620 miles in a day very easily....you need to learn to do a little 'bump and grind' on the long rides, keeps the blood flowing.....:thumb

Yep, thats what works for me!

Excellent, thanks Thunder - that's what I was looking for.:thumb2

Sorry Rob,

If the trip was a bit hard on you bot,

Will have to get some of the gs s to do some off road next time so you can stand up:)

I borrowed Thunders Sargent yesterday (Tues) and went for a wee bimble. 310 miles later and I can report that it's a nice way to travel. Much more supportive than the oe seat and only in the last 10/15 miles did I start to feel 'tired'. However, that was probably more likely to do with me needing a standard height seat than the low version Roger owns (I knew I'd be compromised in that respect).

As an AirHwawk owner (which I'll more than likely sell now to help fund the purchase of a set of Sargents), the thing I really liked was the lack of worrying about leaving the bike with the AirHawk in situ. Yes, the AH is a great piece of kit, but with the Sargent, well, it's always on the bike every time you ride.

Seats

I had the same trouble on my 1150, comming back from scotland in 2001 very sore so, enough!. Brought a Corbin, not a good fit you have to take all the old fittings from the original seat and fit them to the Corbin and for that price I'd expect new fittings. It did not fit well and took a bit of fiddling the rea seat would not fit because the two angled brackts were at the wrong angle so had to remove one all this on a £500 seat!. But, after about 500 miles it has settled down and is now good, on the trans am trip last year did 845 miles one day with out a sore bum (nearly fell asleep but bum ok) so be warned not perfect but it does work. I have heard good reports of Sargent seats but never tried one. Had a ride on a 1200 pillion last year and that was VERY comfortable.

The new Corbin for the 1200 fits great,
no fiddling or taking bits off just 400+ miles a day
:thumb:thumb2:thumb2

I bought a pair of Sargents after trying the Wunderlich and Kahedo seats.
The Sargent is a world apart from anything else in my opinion. Yes they are a little pricey but if you plan to do big miles they are totally worth it. I did 2200 miles in 5 days including two 700 mile days with no probs at all.
Just my 2p worth.

this man speaks truth.

i did 10,000 km in 21 days circumnavigating new zealnd. i have done another 40,000 around oz since. could never have done it on a standard seat.

i have an airhawk too. good for cruisers and short arsed blokes (not for a gs and certainly not with a sargent). problem is you no longer sit IN the saddle, bur rather ON TOP of it.

yeah, but i bet the corbin weighs twice the weight of a sargent, takes twice as long to order and receive, and costs twice the price. :augie
