My ass can`t take it anymore.

I'm with Davegs re Corbins. I did 35K out of 40k on my 1150 with Corbins then another 45K out of 54K on my 1200 with Corbins and found that 350+ sessions weren't a problem whereas I very nearly turned around at the ferry terminal with the stock saddle on (70 miles from home) when going to Holland for the Easter GS bash a few years ago, it nearly killed my arse :(.
I've already got Corbins for my 1100gs ready for MOT on Monday :D:JB

Will do Bill probably first one'll be outside work though :D The motor is as sweet as a nut (Thanks Rudiemoto) I just need to give it a clean and bleed the brakes and ABS and take it for its MOT and then it'll be my go to work steed so my old Golf can have a rest :thumb2

Yes another thread about the pain we are expected to suffer.
I collected my 1200 gsa last Friday and was chuffed to bits as i bimbled home across the peak district, looking at the snow on the hills thinking this is the life.:D
Almost 400 miles later the pain !! :censor:
Gave Tony Archer a call and he is extremely busy minimum of 2 weeks wait :blast
So thought should i just order a sargent seat? Lots of peeps seem to rate them.
Anyway i found this chap http://www.motorbike-seats.co.uk/ who seems to have time to fit me in.
I was just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with him and if so how was he?

Thats Melboy, a bit of a legend in the Blackbird community. His work is great, I have had a Blackbird seat done by him, my old Z1000 and a friends Africa Twin.

His work is great and he can do pretty much whatever you want him to do. I would not hesitate to go back to him.

When I am off for a longer jaunt, I always wear cycling shorts underneath my leathers, that little bit of chammie padding does wonders for the bum cheeks :-) www.wiggle.co.uk and get a pair with a "touring" pad, takes the edge off of the ring sting.

I had a seat done by Mel for my blackbird and it was good but he did the seat on my DRZ as well & I was not impressed, comfort wise only, his workmanship is not in question.

Having now changed to a GS I opted for a sargent seat and reckon of the 2 the sargent seat is worth the extra.

I too have a Melboy seat on my Blackbird - fantastic comfort, & the best upgrade I've made by far.:thumb

I have a Bagster gel seat on my GS which I'm pleased with, but again there is a two week wait with them, so probably not much good for you.:blast

I had a Melboy seat on my VFR - a great improvement on the standard Honda plank and well worthwhile. Melvin's easy to deal with, no problems on that front either. I took a trip down to Coventry and did a swap of my standard VFR seat for one he'd rebuilt.

For the GS, I wasn't expecting to need to chnage the seat, but after a while took note of what folks on here say and opted to go straight for a Sargent, which is absolutely excellent.

I dunno ..... You lot must have arses made of rose petals. Yer need to toughen up a bit .... :comfort

I have used most seats I think, it always takes three days of a big ride for the pain to stop then leather arse cuts in and all is well :rob

Seats are like screens.....what suits one doesn't always suit another!

I had a Melvin seat on my 1150 and I was very pleased with the quality and the comfort......that is until I got a Sargent at the right price on here. My logic was that I could soon sell the Sargent on without loss if I didn't get on with it. Since that day, the Melvin seat has sat on a shelf.

There is a 1200 Sargent on eBay at the moment (Item number: 150795555568)

Hi Staffy,
I had the same problem with my first GS, sore arse after 200/300 miles, so I had my seat done by Mr Hunter at Custom Seats, in fact if you go to the web site the Red GS in the Gallery is mine, the quality of his work is very good and they are pleasent to deal with. If you go to them they work from home in a garage/workshop at the rear of their house.
You can choose the type of foam/gel you want and they can alter the shape of the seat as well. Also you can choose the fabric, colour and design of the cover.
I wish I had only got them to put gel inserts in the original foam and kept the original cover ( I prefer the look of the standard cover), if you do get them to recover the seat ask for the original cover back as I didn't and then thought it could have been used in the future.
I found the seat a lot more comfortable and 300/400 miles were Ok, but when I went touring with the Misses our bums still ached after a day in the saddle.
To get over the bad ass when touring I used a Sheepskin cover for the both of us.
I bought the sheepskin from a market for £25 (must be a thick flecce not a thin one) and cut it to shape for the front and back saddle and added elastic to hold them in place, problem solved can tour all day now no sore ass :thumb2, but my mates take the piss and say I am some sort of sheep shagger.
So then I sold the GS and now have a GSA, I bought a Sargent saddle for the GSA and found that it is as comfy as the GS saddle I had altered, but they are wider at the front and mid point of the riders seat and as such make the bike feel taller (harder to get your feet down) if we go touring I still use the sheepskin with the Sargent seat but only if we're doing lots of days and miles.
I will add that every type of seat or seat adaption does not suit everyone, got a mate that can ride all day on the standard GSA seat but could not get on with the Sargent, you have to find the one that is right for you.
Hope that helps a bit, ride safe :thumb2

My 07 1200gs has an adventure seat fitted and its the comfyest thing ive ever been on, 6 hours + before sore bum by then ive had enough anyway. Not sure if its had any sort of insert put in but it sits a lot higher than my mates does.

Spending the first week in june down summerset way with a group of mates and intend to put a good few miles in each day so guess il see how good the seat is then .

Thanks for all the feedback.

After several discussions with numerous people i have ordered a Sargent seat today. The resale value if it doesn`t work must make it worth a shot.

Tried a Corbin and thought it was fantastic but a little wide on the thighs, this is something i could probably have lived with, but a new Sargent was cheaper than the second hand Corbin.

Good choice. Apart from being very comfortable, Sargent seats are OEM or better build quality whereas Corbins are a bit crude and heavy. Turn over a Corbin and it looks as if it's been built by a blacksmith (no offence to any blacksmiths looking in...) I've ridden a GS fitted with a Corbin in the US and they are wider - designed for fat-ass Merkins.

If I remember correctly, Sargent seats was started by Mike Corbin's ex-wife when they split up. Corbin still have the name and the interesting factory cum restaurant in Hollister, California but I think Sargent is the better seat.

I must be one of the only people happy with the stock seat.:hide No issues whatsoever.:beerjug:
