Allroad, try the Airhawk Cruiser medium. Should help you on longer runs, and is really worth the money. If you can't get on with it you will have no bother moving it on anyway, but it's certainly worth a try before you change the bike over something that should be easily remedied.

HTH

Aidan thanks for that, where would i get one is there any where in ni that does them ?

You can buy them here from the UK importer.

Airhawk Budget Cruiser Medium is the one you want at £69.99. Don't know what they are like to deal with as I bought mine from Tarka, but surely worth a phone call. :thumb

The RSPCA should be informed if you've been putting your ass on a motorcycle!

Equines, be they horses, asses or donkeys are not designed to ride bikes.

If, however, you have slipped in the atrocious Americanism to replace the perfectly sensible British ARSE, then wash your mouth out!

Defend the world against creeping American cultural imperialism through language.

(I am, of course, aware that many people believe that the words American and culture cannot possibly exists in the same sentence).

From Oxford English Dictionary

Arse....... noun.... British vulgar slang....... a persons bottom

Ass.........noun......North American form of Arse!!!!!!!!! widely used since 1739 !!!!!!!

So both are in the category of slang vocabulary !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I realise Allroad you probably are not really interested in politically correct vocabulary as the thread you initiated was really only to find out how to ease your sore................................. BUTT.....................................

wonder what useful information Droopy Dick will come up with next

yellofella...

Touche my friend.....

I have the GSA screen on mine and a Corbin seat..... ****ing marvellous it is too!

(check out teh GSA screen on a GS in this section!

;)

BIKE SHORTS

Try a pair of padded bike shorts.
I wear a pair on long journeys... Seems tomake a huge difference.

Most have antibacterial inserts, so no dreaded crotch rot too..

99.9% of the time I ride in leathers or Rukka Goretex trousers and I find the seat (GS, not GSA) comfortable for 8-10 hour trips. BUT - for the last couple of days I've been wearing jeans for the ride to work, and now the seat feels uncomfortable after 5 minutes. So if you normally wear jeans to ride in, then a pair of bike shorts underneath sounds like a very good idea :thumb

Wear the shorts on the outside and you could look like Superman - or a complete prat... ;)

had a spin on a K 1200 GT today and liked it very smooth but Im waiting for a spin on an RT

any comments about these two bikes ?
To return to your original post, I've tried both the 1200RT and the K12GT but didn't like either of them. The RT seems to have a strange caster action on the steering, has insufficent ground clearance and the seat isn't any better than the GS. The GT has a beautiful strong engine but that's about all i liked about it. No doubt both are good bikes and just need getting used to and maybe when I get my bus pass I'll reconsider. both lack any sense of fun (especially after the GS).
I've done 21,000 miles on my GS and can honestly say the seat hasn't bedded in it's just the same as the day it was made (mind you I'm "only" 13 stone, maybe they settle in for the lardy arses ;) ). I've recently started wearing an under layer designed to help goretex do its job and this has made the ride a lot more comfortable, possibly because the goretex no longer sticks when I get hot.
I've had a seat for my blackbird from Melvin and although expensive it is very, very good so maybe that's worth trying. He'll do just the rider seat so maybe won't be so costly to try it- you'll loose much more by changing the bike and the GT seat is far less comfortable after 100 miles or so.

Thank you for that

and thanks to Topcat aswell

Found it for me

Got me GSA rode it home thought the seat is a bit uncomfi but as it was new and I was still grinning it didnt bother me too much, rode it again and was in pain bought a 1200 low seat and a cheapie airhawk fitted the airhawk with almost no air in it and its perfect did 350 miles today without any pain or irritation got home and said to the wife I could do that ride again now "if it wasnt so hot" allways something to moan about!!!

I've just got back from a 360 mile trip around Wales today and I feel like I've been buggered by a bear!!!! Definately going to get my seat's Melvyn'd at the end of the week!

Feck me - so that's why my arse is so sore - I've been buggered by a bear   A bloody grizzly in my case!

I've got a bit of derad shhep on it now so be interesting to see if that works.

I had my 1150GS seat Melvin'd and was very disappointed. Very neat upholstery if not a little H-D custom in style but don't strip off the cover to have a look underneath. I did and was very disappointed at the quality of the foam he used, never mind the old bin bag as a waterproof barrier!
