My battery is as dead as a thing. Should I replace it before going on my awesome steed on an equally awesome holiday, or should I chance it?

As prompted by the increasingly technical 1200 GS and beyond ‘Technical section’.

Buy one of those charger packs that will cost more than a battery and add bulk and weight to your luggage. But it will start the bike up if the battery fails. It's a no brainer.

Or a lighter tow rope? Pray for helpful assistance. :green gri

65 quid for peace of mind.

No brainer …….

You could always employ a support rider, equiped with suatable spares to keep the steed of awesomeness on the big adventure

Then breakdowns would be a thing of the past, knowing at the slightest hiccup, your support rider would be by your side top assist you and your steed of awesomness on your adventure

Adventure over , your support rider , would go to his next support ride offering assitance (should it be needed) to the next adventurer
