Hello.

Last sunday my 1150gs did the biggest back fire I have ever heard in Boxhill Cafe car park, if you were within a 100 mile radius chances are you heard it, or at least felt it. Accompanied by a large ploom of smoke and probably flames judging from the sindged eyebrows of the chap standing directly behind when it happened. That morning the engine had cut out on me a couple of times. The first time it stalled the clock reset to zero and the petrol gauge stopped working. I had trouble restarting the engine.

I just checked the battery and the connections were both a little loose, so tightened them. The fuses were all intact. The petrol gauge is still not working, the clock is.

Could those loose connections have caused that Hiroshima scale back fire, or should I be checking anything else?

Thanks!

Loose battery leads will cause all sorts of odd things to occur, Try separating and cleaning the contacts in the four pin connector under the right sidecover to see if the fuel gauge will come back, you may have got away with it, or you could have toasted your alternator, I would check the charging voltage just to make sure.

Thanks for the tips. Bike running fine. Fuel gauge still not working so will try what you said.

Cheers
