My bike is channelling my forum name!

Just to confirm then, that the wheel was indeed Dynamically balanced and the addition of 5g of weight has made no difference whatsoever.

I've tried setting the suspension to Rider & Luggage and this makes no difference either. I'll be interested to see how it behaves fully loaded over the next few days in the Borders.

Tourance Next..there was only one tyre worse than the next...
I must admit to hating Roadtecs but when I was between a rock and a hard place, Nexts were all I could get. I have to say I quite like them but my fitter tells me that Metzler / Pirelli are being held up by the Italian Government for the benefit of F1 racing and I've also read that the tyres are now made n China so I may well go back to the Anakee III next time (unless the PR5 is available in LC sizes).

I had a similar problem with my XR which Geoff at Hilltop correctly diagnosed as a faulty front tyre which was misshaped.

Shakey might get the message soon...............:rob

Well as it’s a new tyre and the shimmy only shows if I let go of the grips between 30 and 50 I’ll just have to suck it up for now. I might email the people (BikespeedUK) I bought it from but as I’ll be putting some miles on it the next few days I doubt they will exchange it.

Ahh Roadtecs....I ran Anakees and PR4 prior to the Roadtec with no issue and the Roadtec was the only one that caused the shimmy. I'd suggest getting them to balance it again

Front end instability can be caused by problems at the rear of the bike - check rear wheel balance.

Well even after 4 days they will still have to change it for you.

Quite. They'll have 'spoiled' your expensive trip. You could ask them for trip compensation...imagine you'd get a tyre out of them then. Aim high n'all that.

I'll probably be flamed for this, but what the hell. Recently I engaged the cruise control on my LC and slowly took my hand off the bars. I was very impressed as to how stable the bike remained, even to the point where I could gently steer it by moving my body weight from side to side. The bike tracked true with no issues, even with top box and panniers fitted. :thumb2 So any shimmy or wobble is definitely not an inherent characteristic of the bike (not that anyone has suggested it was).

That might be pushing the boat a bit far..............

So after a tenuous trip over Glenshee, I now have a new set of Tourance (not Next) on the bike - all they had in stock.

The handling problems have gone away :beerjug:

I spoke to BikespeedUK who will gladly take the tyreback for analysis by Metz with a view to a refund. I’ll also be asking them to take back the rear I bought from them and have not fitted. I’ll also be mentioning that the rear that got binned today had 1500 miles on it :(

I too think trip compo would be pushing it

Glad sorted before your next trip

Well I still haven’t had a sensible reply from BikespeedUK Ltd so this evening I have lodged a complaint with my credit card company

Some companies do not realise how important word of mouth between clients is, and now with social media, it is even more scary, they need to buck up.

I am sure your credit card company will look after you if the supplier drags their heels

I do not purchase anything over £100 with out using one. And for larger purchases always go for 0% finance. Or use a 0% credit card, easy now as they cannot charge you more for using one. even if you only pay the deposit (over £100) you are covered.

Many years ago paid cash for a 3 year old caravan - nothing but problems over the two years of ownership and the only option was to go to court. Decided to sell instead at quite a loss.

Social media is so powerful. When i receive good service i post good review, even if things go wrong it is how they deal with the complaint which is important. Most people have internet access, takes 30 seconds to check on line reviews...
