My BIL Guenter and my sister fly back to Germany today after he completed an 800km walk called Jakob's Weg over part of the Pyrenese mountains from France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. This is an apparently famous pilgrims walk (I think it's called St James's Path over here). It has taken him about 6 weeks and he was walking circa 20-30 kms per day. Getting up day after day knowing you have another 25 kms in front of you must be quite daunting.
My sister flew out a couple of weeks ago and joined him for the last part of the journey. My BIL is 65 years old but a big, strong, strapping guy. He looks 10 years younger but I've no doubt that this must have been hard for him to complete. He finished the walk at the weekend and probably enjoyed a few days in S de C sitting on his backside doing nothing.
Guenter was seriously ill about 20 years ago and this expedition merely confirms my opinion of him as a strong, determined guy.
I respect him immensely
