My Butt hurts, What's the best seat for 06 1200GSA

My butt is starting to ache after short rides, think the seat must be on its way out. What's the most comfortable seat for the 1200GSA ?

Sargent, Wunderlich etc.

What you want is a seat with much firmer foam in it. You can go to well known seat builders/companies or try little, local seat upholsterers who may be a bit cheaper.

FWIW my Winderlich Ergo is fantastic (on a std GS.)

we have two airhawks on the bike for long journeys
can ride up to 10 hours and still walk ok afterwards :thumb2

Sounds odd, but the most comfortable car seat I've ever parked my backside on is a Mercedes, which felt like it was made of concrete first time I sat on it. 9 hour driving days were a breeze in that car.

I think the important thing is providing support in the right places - on a bike seat, I'd have thought too much squish won't support properly.

ive tried most in a hunt for a good seat best for me is the corbin the sargents not bad but ask your self how come there are loads off nearly new ones for sale:blast
 
I'd probably have to agree with Matt... I got a low seat when I got my GSA and initially found it really uncomfortable, I couldnt do much more than 100 miles without needing a break, now I can ride all day on it


and no my ass hasnt got fatter!
 
You'll get used to it.. Get a pair of padded bike shorts...Cheap solution while you're waiting for your ar$e to get used to it.

Well this is why I asked about hard vs soft. I also had a low seat on my GS initially, but it was hard and painful after about 1 hour. I swapped for the standard, softer, seat and there was a dramatic improvement.

This goes against the 'soft to hard' philosophy

If you have a nice squishy soft foam, like the one that comes as standard, it feels all nice and soft when you're prodding it with 100n of force from your finger and you think it's all hunky dory.

However, when you place 14 stone of arse cheek on it it collapses and your pelvis bones rest on the fibreglass. Which isn't soft or compliant.

So what you're after is a foam which is dense enough to hold that 14 stone off the fibreglass. For hours on end.

Hence the need for a dense foam. :rob :D

(I'm not implying you're a fat git - my svelt 10 stone was enough to enable my pelvis to contact fibreglass...);)

I think it's different for everyone... I slapped the standard seat back on for the first Assen trip I did as I knew it was going to be a long time in the saddle and yes it was comfy - at the time I did consider getting it tailored to be a bit lower, but I never bothered.

I ride the majority of the time with the low seat because it give me that extra bit of assurance when it comes to handling the bike at a craw, etc and what can I say... I've got used to it... I've since done another Assen trip, Mangy Cours, 300+ mile rides through Wales and it feels fine, it just took a short time to adjust to

I have std seat and was also getting a tad sore in the 'derrier' :eek: - but i think this was as seat on the low setting and as slope of seat facing down I constantly felt like i was sitting 'against the angel' of the seat so to speak. I adjusted the front support adjustment under the seat to the 'high' position and this immediately stopped me from 'tilting' forward on the seat. Made a huge difference to comfort to the point where no longer have any issues at all - even on even on 6-7hr rides. :thumb

Well I fitted a Sargent to my 1200GSA last year and has been great for me :thumb2 can ride all day no prob. But as pointed out what may suit one persons arse might not suit another.:blast
Best thing is to see if you can borrow different seats before you purchase if you are lucky enough. :nenau

Just ordered a Sargent seat, but they got no stock until mid March. Will keep you all posted how my arse fairs
