Can anyone tell me is there anyway to adjust the canbus setting? Here is what is happenning recently Rainbow BMW fitted a very nice hella socket in my top fairing (all bmw parts) costing £95.00! So I could use my heated Gloves or heated jacket.

I sell/retail the Gerbing's range of products and the Jacket liner draw's 6.4Amps as soon as I connect the jacket it trips the Canbus and it say's NO!I have tried the BMW rear factory fitted socket and the same happenns.
whwn i test the front or rear sockets with test light they are both working but when i use the jacket off it go's.

I did not want to wire staright to battery and have velcro wires or danggling around bits! That why i paid for the BMW socket at the first service. This is all happenning before i use heated gloves as well:augie

So does it mean i have to make a relay and then wire the front socket straight to the battery? Any help would be good... as my auto electrical man is away sunning his body STATESIDE.

Thanx

Big D:)

Is 6.4A the current you have measured or the current "the book says it will draw" ?
Since it trips both sockets it suggests to me that there is a fault with the jacket and it is drawing a higher current.

I would try to hook up the jacket to a 12V battery (with a 10A fuse in line) and try to get a measurement of the actual current.

canbus trips at 5A if i remember correctly.

best solution IMO is put another socket on the beak wired to the battery via a 10/15A fuse. no need for any relays or visible wiring horrors.

as a bonus, you'll be able to plug a battery charger straight onto the bike if you want.

I believe that they are limited to 5A per socket too - think the manual may say this????

Page 156 of the 2010 manual gives the limits for the sockets - 5A for standard fit socket, for OA socket(s) total 5A.
Auxillary headlights (OA), 7.5A fuse (electronic???) I guess the BMW aux headlights have their own dedicated 7.5A feed.

Several ways to cure the problem depending on other things you may want to do. Cheapest is to use the flylead that came with the kit. Another option is to wire a powerlet type socket direct to the battery and replace the OE socket. Since I have other stuff I want to power and keep it "off" the Canbus, I wired a seperate fusebox to the battery and connect everything into that i.e heated gear, spots, gps, accessory socket etc. Mine has 6 switched outputs and two unswitched which does the job perfectly.

well thanks guys for all the info, as i sell Gerbings i was ok to try sevral jackets off each socket but all triped canbus. I tried heated gloves and even they triped BMW accessory Rainbow wired socket.

SO after a trip to my Goldwing electrical pal Denis at Barnsley i have just rode home in emmense wind but nice and autummy! with my HIDS on my heated grips on my Garmin 660 on and PMR radio and my autocom on....(this is my 3rd GSA and its starting to get like my GL1800 Goldwings:) Mmmmm

I have to say wiring aint my thing hence I had Mick Tabone sell me and fit me with HIDS and Autocom he did a great job and i do enjoy night riding now, anyway back to today Denis changed both front and rear Hella sockets-Canbus ones for Wire up ones and wired them both to the battery, the jacket was plugged in and it worked great then we connected the fuses he ahd installed into th erear socket checked it all OK.
But as we made the final connection to the battery when we turned the ignition on the clock was flashing all the lights as in headlight and hids were flashing and the rear tail light, no Red ABS Brake failure light came on?

We then disconected everything put it back to standard and there was nothing no ignition all DEAD! I rang Rainbow BMW where Sean(the owner) was last man standing 5.45pm but after a call to fitters home they said it should all install back OK no probs taking battery off?

So we reinstalled front wired socket chacking for power we reconnected battery and it came to life! running a little lumpy and pinking a little, then a blast round Barnsley and it seems to have settled, onward with rear socket again all OK this time assembled seat and everything back I have just rode 30 miles home NEVER BEEN SO WARM on a Motorcycle! the Single tempreture controler is on the underside of the lefy wing beak? do da thingy!! and its a case of pull over adjust but i could now cook!!!! lol :)

Seems OK will test tomorrow on Lincolnshire ride out. Why it all packed in Mmm not sure

But I am impresed with my Jacket Liner been selling em for 4 years off and on and never been able to fit into one but as I have lost some weight its great to be able to get one for myself!

Thanking You all again

Big Derek :)
