Out and about!
Yep my car renewal came in yesterday, last year £250, this year £650, shopped around, best quote so far £400 with LV.

Renewal remains a constant battle.

My wife's car has been with LV for a few years so the renewal notice arrived as usual. A mere £50 increase to £330!!

I quick run on Go Compare came up with a list showing LV second in line at £298.

So I called LV on the phone number on page 1 of the new quotation and told them I'd be cheaper going online.

Nice lady gave me lots of words to explain that quotes change day by day, but instantly gave me a new figure of £297. Which I accepted and paid for.

Why, oh why do they fuck with renewal customers so much.

And - she asked if she could keep my card number and tick the box box for automatic renewal next year. No fuckin' chance.

Coffee time now.

Same here , LV renewal up by £130. Called them and they knocked of £50 straight away.

Was talking to a mate yesterday who is 80 years old

He's just had the renewal in for his 15 year old Mitsubishi Pick Up Truck

Last year £410 this year £980 :blast

His two V-Maxes are due renewal in a couple of months time

My insurance company e-mithered me yesterday to say they won't renew my car policy this year no matter what. 1st time I've ever had that happen.
Not a major inconvenience as I always shop around but it did come as a bit of a surprise.

"It's been great having you with us. But sadly, we can't renew your cover for another year.

Why can't we renew your insurance

One day, we hope to bring great value cover to everyone.

For now though our underwriting rules mean that there are some drivers we simply can't cover – no matter how much we'd like to.

It might be because of:

  • What they drive
  • Where they live
  • What they do for a living
  • What their claims history looks like
These rules are constantly changing - hence why we could cover you last year, but not again.

What happens now

There's nothing we can do to change this decision right now. So if you'd like to stay on the road, you'll need to find cover elsewhere.".

Bizarre

it is not uncommon

some underwriters will not touch Range Rovers and other high theft risk marques in some postcodes

Even JLR's own broker is declining to insure some RRs. From Jan 2024:

Just been playing the insurance renewal dance today with Hastings , last year it was £255 and this year they tried to stiff me for over £400 , shopped around and got the same cover albeit with £40,000 more personal accident cover for less than £240 with Aviva .

Rang up Hastings to cancel the auto renewal and straight away they say " we could have matched that if you wanted ", Sorry but too late , but why not just do that in the first place .

They would have quite happily have screwed me for an extra £160 plus
