Hi everyone!
I’d like to share my choice of tires for the BMW F800 GS (first generation).
I used to have a different motorcycle (MT-03), but I wanted to switch to an enduro. I looked at various options and settled on the BMW F800 GS I’ve always liked it. I wanted a versatile motorcycle that I could ride comfortably both on the highway and on light off-road terrain. So I could get out into nature and visit beautiful places, not just the gray city. On the MT-03, on gravel and especially on dirt roads, it handles awkwardly low ground clearance, narrow tires that easily get stuck or slip, suspension bottoms out on bumps, and makes off-road riding uncomfortable.
Before this, I had Metzeler Tourance tires, but they’re more of a city option than what I needed.
Of all the tires I considered, I chose the Continental TKC 70 Rocks.
Here’s my experience:
On asphalt, the tire performs comfortably: it’s noticeably quieter than more aggressive models, handles well at speed, and feels confident in corners. Another plus is its decent grip on wet asphalt there’s no “slippery” feeling like you get with many off-road tires.
The difference is especially noticeable on dirt roads: less wheel spin, better traction, and overall more stable handling. The rear wheel becomes more predictable, providing confidence and control, especially on gravel and forest roads.
All in all, it strikes a good balance: you can drive comfortably on the highway without worrying about veering off onto dirt roads or into the woods. It’s not an extreme off-road tire, but as a versatile option, it’s a great choice.
I also considered other options:
Michelin Anakee Wild a good tire, but heavily geared toward off-road use. For my use, which involves only a small amount of off-road driving, it won’t work.
Dunlop Trailmax Mission excellent tires: they handle well on asphalt, are durable, and very versatile. However, according to reviews, they may not self-clean as well in serious off-road conditions and can sometimes hydroplane.
Conclusion:
Choose tires strictly based on your riding style and needs.
If you want a good all-around tire, go ahead and get the Continental TKC 70 Rocks. They allow for a comfortable ride on asphalt and let you tackle light off-road terrain with ease.
I hope my experience proves useful to someone.
If you have any objections, your own experience, or want to share your thoughts write in the comments, I’d love to read them!
Happy riding and have a great season, everyone!
