I gave the Airhead a good clean including degreasing the loom under the tank and now my main and dip don't work....

The side lights OK, the rear lights OK but the main and dip :blast

I've checked as much as I can disconnecting all that can be disconnected, cleaned, WD40'd and put back together.

I've checked very fuse

I've wiggled but no luck.

Any ideas :thumb

Since the side lights and the rear light are okay, have you tried replacing the bulb, just on the off chance that it blew ?

Bet you wish you hadn't degreased the loom now. :D

Probably all that WD40 crap you've sprayed about. :blastIt'll disappear and normal service will resume in a few days.:comfort

There are a couple of 6 or 8? pin connector blocks in the headstock area, one of them takes the wiring which comes from the left side light etc switch.

I think the white block is the light one , tyou could try pulling them both and cleaning the pins and sockets, but if there has been corrosion in them the sockets can simply have rotted away.DAHIK.

I ended up replacing my blocks with individual Posi-Lock Lock it connectors - neat , quick and easy and has worked perfectly so far.

Relay checked for weak connections and new relay also tried, every thing seems connected - looks like Im going to need to understand how to use a multi meter and work from the ignition switch back.

Are your fuses the old fashioned ceramic type? I had a similar problem on my 100RT mono, the fuses looked fine but on advice I replaced them and all was well. It was extremely difficult to see a minute fracture in the metal part of the fuse that was at fault.

Use a meter.... Put the red spike where it should be live and black spike on metal..... Make sure switched on......

You're assuming I know what should be live , my expertise knows it's the bit at the back of the bulb but as soon as I've moved back from there my expertise drops of at an alarming rate.

I've tried to be very methodical about it this afternoon but theres a lot of wires going all over the place and it makes my head hurt... For it to not work after a wash I'm assuming a por connection but I suppose a wire could have broken as I did move the loom around as I cleaned it.

If a wire is broken, there's a good chance that the break will make an intermittent contact when wire is moved. I'd try moving those wires around again but with lights turned on to see if it flickers on at some point thereby indicating where the breakage may be if indeed that is what has happened. I'd go same route with connectors, jiggle ( scientific term for slightly pulling the connectors off without actually disconnecting them- will refresh the connection if corrosion is the problem as it basically scratches the metal surface exposing fresh connecting metal surface) all the connectors a little while lights are switched on to see if any prompt a reaction.

Assuming this loom…

If it's something at the lamp, rather than upstream, the high beam warning lamp should still light up when switched to high beam.

Has it stopped working too?

Yes main beam blue light does not come on...

I have a Touratech warning light block on the bike and I did notice the charge light was not coming but a wiggle and clean of the connector that takes all the feeds to that block solved it.

What year is your bicke may be you have switch your lights off
I done that with my 92 bicke once and dident reliese you could switch the light off
:blast

If you can't get it solved readily and fancy a ride out, I'm in Harwich and I have multimeters, relays, wire and crimpers etc if necessary.....Come on over and I'll show you how to track down this sort of gremlin :beerjug:

And no, you won't have to get your arse out...I'm 'inbetween jobs' at the moment and bored shitless :D

Main and dip have a separate earth from sidelight at bulb holder end. Run a quality earth from battery to the bulb holder.
My Hi beam stopped ( in a R100RS ) and I needed to clean up the printed circuit in the speedo/tacho casing and all was well again.

Ignore what Fanum promises, you'll still have to get your arse out if you go down there !! :D

If neither headlight or high beam warning lamp come on, it seems to rule-out a headlamp bulb or earth problem, so the cause is further upstream.

If I read it right, on this diagram the horn and 'flash' button circuit appear common. Does the flash button make the light work? Does the horn work?

Is she fixed yet?

Nope and not had a chance to look again for a few days...

The horn works but I don't have a flasher, the bike has old KTM switch gear

I used a multi meter to the back of the bulb (from the battery) which should have picked up if it was a bad earth.

I must be something so simple, I need to understand the relays better. The bike has two one when removed means the starter does not work, I don't know what the other one does
