Hello Guys,

I finally got my first BMW, 1200GS triple black.
In few hours, I will go pick it up. Very EXCITED!!!

I am going to use it for commute and trip on the weekends.

I prefer GS than GSA because of its simpler look. But I think I would like to put least protection for the bike.
I am thinking about just putting cylinder head protection. Do you think this is safe enough to protect the engine from possible drop? I really don't want to put any bar protection. It will make me harder to use the bike for commute.

Hi there and welcome to the site :beerjug:

A lot of people fit full crash bars and they really don't get in the way or cause any problems, trust me :) I did, originally, have just cylinder head protectors (the plastic ones) but, to be honest, they mostly only offer protection if you drop the bike at very low speed or at a standstill.

Here's a good view of the bars doing their job but also shows how unobtrusive they are (S&W Motech).

Hi and welcome
I've got SW-Motech upper and lower engine bars on my gs
I have no problem filtering:thumb

I've got the metal cylinder head protectors and the bike has now been dropped twice to the left and twice to the right at pretty well standstill.

No damage to bike and just a few scratches on the protectors. :thumb

I have a GS as GSA was not an option for me height wise ;)

Great news - congratulations, there is nothing like a new bike :)

I have cylinder protectors on mine - but the engine bars from my older bike will be on my triple black this weekend - they don't get in the way and you won't notice them unless you need them!

Thank you guys for the tip.
I had about 20km of city riding and I am enjoying it very much so far.
I don't know why I was only riding sporty bikes until now. It is so comfortable and also very fun ar corners too!!
I hope that I don't get attempted by new liquid cooled GS and enjoy this last air cooled boxer engine for long time!!
