It had to happen eventually I suppose or not if you’re a Honda rider. My 5th GS, 3rd 1200 and over 100000miles on them and first failure, mine succumbed to water pump, noticed bluey green water spots on the left hand cylinder when I stopped for fuel, was unaware of the vent hole in the engine, temp was in the 90s so took it steady on the way home thinking I had holed the rad as we were riding on some rough roads. Got home okay and rang my dealer, they said they sometimes blow out through there and then settle down, take it for another ride and see if it settles down. I took it out again, couldn’t see any coming out, temp was still in the 90s and radiators were cold. My mate ran his up and the radiators got hot and the fan came on and the temp went down as you would expect. So this confirmed water pump failure, rang bmw assist and they were really helpful and collected it within the hour from my house to take it to be repaired.
Let’s see how long it takes before I get it back.

The 2017 engine no longer has the weep hole. There's a hose instead, which appears to empty out by the LH rider footrest, along with a number of other hoses.

The hold on mine was empty, apparently there should be a piece of foam in the hole?

Well I called that totally wrong, turns out I holed the left hand radiator, the fluid went around the cylinder so I thought it blew out of the hole but it came out of the rad. I looked at the rad and couldn’t see any leaks, tiny hole when they tested it, so my fault not BMWs, pissed I’ve got pay for it but kinda happy it wasn’t a bmw failure.

sods law ! can you let us know what the invoice total is please for a new rad fitted to one of these ?

A lot more than a set of guards, I did try to buy a set of here just last week but missed them, like you say Sod’s law
