Hi All,

I've just bought my first GS, a 2017 TE model, and only my second BMW (I briefly owned an F800ST a few years ago) so thought I would introduce myself and the bike to the forum. I've been lurking here for a while soaking up information, and having first considered buying the RS, went for the GS after finding that my wife wasn't happy with the pillion accommodation on the RS, and that I also preferred the GS. I returned to biking about 4 yrs ago after about 30 years off, and have had no less that 5 bikes in that time, trying to find what suited me best, complicated by the fact that my wife unexpectedly started riding with me after initially wanting nothing to do with bikes! Hopefully the GS which is bike number 6 will be a keeper - it certainly feels like it so far.

When I started looking at the GS I struggled to get an attractive deal locally, though to be fair at the time I hadn't sold my previous bike, so they may not have thought I was that serious. Once I had sold it I sent out enquiries to my six nearest BMW dealers and had reasonable responses from several, but Balderstons of Peterborough came up with the best deal, and got my business. They seem a friendly bunch, and were great to deal with. Matt the salesman was very helpful, and made parting with a large sum of money relatively painless!

Having previously owned a tall bike in the form of the Versys 1000, I had found that bike a bit nerve wracking at times during a tour of southern Greece, particularly when making slow speed maneuvers fully loaded with pillion and luggage, so with the GS I decided to go for the low chassis version. Although I am 6' tall I have a long torso and only average length legs, and now I have the bike I'm very happy with that decision. The bike also came with the low seat but having tried it with that I decided that because of the lowered chassis I would be fine with the standard seat, so have fitted the bike with a set of the Exclusive comfort seats from Rainbow, which I found out about on this forum.

Great looking bike. So subtly new. Glad you didn't go for the big GS stickers in the tank. Looks fantastic.

Thanks all.

I was kind of tempted by the Exclusive model but was put off by the big GS logo and I'm now happy I went with the standard version. Would maybe like some plain black tank protectors for the rear lower tank sides, to protect against clothing rubbing, like the one that comes as standard in the middle, so would be pleased to hear of any recommended products.

Hi Fred,

welcome to the forum, they are a peculiar bunch on here but you soon differentiate the Keyboard warriors from the helpful souls!

The bike looks great, now get out and enjoy it!

Stay shinny side up!

We know each other from the NC forum, I knew you'd move to the Dark Side eventually! :thumby:

Hi Fred,
Good to see you here as well.
How is the farkling going?

Sweet! It has reminded me to take the frame bungs out of my Racing Red GS before I return it for my new one, like yours, also in Thunder Black Metallic next week. ;-)

Hi Radarman,

I saw on the NC forum that you had sold your NC, so does this mean that you have a GS now too? I put a post in the other bikes and motors forum there about my initial plans for the GS, mainly to install some alternative luggage, but still waiting for that to arrive, so no progress yet. I have bought some Puig crash bars, but didn't think the finish looked very strong as the paint was already chipped in a couple of places, so I've taken them to be powder coated, and don't really want to ride the bike too much until I have them installed - just in case! I've also been contacted by Dave from the NC forum - POL382 on here.
