Hi All,
I've just bought my first GS, a 2017 TE model, and only my second BMW (I briefly owned an F800ST a few years ago) so thought I would introduce myself and the bike to the forum. I've been lurking here for a while soaking up information, and having first considered buying the RS, went for the GS after finding that my wife wasn't happy with the pillion accommodation on the RS, and that I also preferred the GS. I returned to biking about 4 yrs ago after about 30 years off, and have had no less that 5 bikes in that time, trying to find what suited me best, complicated by the fact that my wife unexpectedly started riding with me after initially wanting nothing to do with bikes! Hopefully the GS which is bike number 6 will be a keeper - it certainly feels like it so far.
When I started looking at the GS I struggled to get an attractive deal locally, though to be fair at the time I hadn't sold my previous bike, so they may not have thought I was that serious. Once I had sold it I sent out enquiries to my six nearest BMW dealers and had reasonable responses from several, but Balderstons of Peterborough came up with the best deal, and got my business. They seem a friendly bunch, and were great to deal with. Matt the salesman was very helpful, and made parting with a large sum of money relatively painless!
Having previously owned a tall bike in the form of the Versys 1000, I had found that bike a bit nerve wracking at times during a tour of southern Greece, particularly when making slow speed maneuvers fully loaded with pillion and luggage, so with the GS I decided to go for the low chassis version. Although I am 6' tall I have a long torso and only average length legs, and now I have the bike I'm very happy with that decision. The bike also came with the low seat but having tried it with that I decided that because of the lowered chassis I would be fine with the standard seat, so have fitted the bike with a set of the Exclusive comfort seats from Rainbow, which I found out about on this forum.
