I've got 2 units registered on My Garmin, my BMW Nav III and mrs Berins Zumo 550. I bought my Nav III secondhand on here, and had no problem registering it and I've done one update via DVD to CN NT 2009. All this while the unit, with the correct serial number, has shown up on My Garmin as "BMW Navigator III".

I just checked for mapping updates, and it's now called StreetPilot 2820. it gives 2 map update options, the NuMaps via download and the one-time update via DVD or download. Since the Numaps is only $10 more it seems the obvious one to go for but - checking for GPS compatibility neither the 2820 nor the Nav III are listed.

So - has anyone bought Numaps for the Nav III, and if so did it work?

thanks,

me thinks cn v9 is the last for the older type of units.i just updated v9 to me 2610 and someone from here said it was the last.think them numaps are for the 550's upwards but not sure.

I have a Nav III and uploaded the latest maps in September through my Numaps account. I had to do it via Firefox as for some reason IE didn't like the Garmin server trying to "talk" to my PC. I have just changed PC at home with Windows 7 and purchased Mrs ChasMill a Garmin for CVhristmas (romantic sod that I am). I registered and downloaded the maps and everything else with no problem.

thanks for the replies on that everyone - I'll go ahead and update with lifetime maps:thumb2

Spoke to garmin this morning as I need them to unlock the maps as I have bought a new computer. No mention of the Nav III (2820 in their language) being obselete.

But the Nav 2,3 and 4 are not "Garmin" GPS's, they're BM ones. As the ex-owner of Berins Nav 3, believe me, when you speak to Garmin they will have difficulty in giving technical help due to the "upgrades" BM have done to the GPS's and how this causes conflicts with the mapping they sell and how you upgrade the maps.

mmm, that's right, they don't really seem to know about the BMW series units. Having said that, my last upgrade (via DVD) worked fine and Chasmills says he's used Numaps OK. My update didn't include an update to the BMW dealer POI's which seems to be locked on some secret part of the memory but I've added other POI's via POI loader with no problem.

I remember when I bought my used Nav2 I got given Mapsource and V6 mapping by Garmin but couldn't install them to the unit without the BMW installer disk (which I eventually got via Ebay).

Perhaps the Nav3 has a similar problem?

I have the original discs that John supplied with the unit but don't recall having to put anything other than the new CN2009 disc in:nenau
