Following a one hour exposure during a heavy shower a few weeks ago, the screen on my Garmin GPS which I bought in July last year from the GPS Warehouse has never recovered. It seems that moisture has somehow gotten in behind the screen and its now difficult to read.

Has anyone else had this problem? if so were you able to exchange it?

Jeremy

The prpblem has been reported before, but usuallly I think with condensation on the 26xx range and they normally dry out....leave the ports open and leave it on t warm surface or in the airing cupboard....

If it's dead though through water ingress, send it back...the casing should be ip6 (up tp a metre of immersion for a certain period) so it soonds like it's faulty........

Even if it's out of warrenty Garmin have a fixed max price for replacement....it's £110 for a quest for example.....so still worth sending it back)

Garmin are very good at this sort of service...so give them a call and then send it back :thumb

Cheers Fanum, its in the hot press.

I'm afraid after spells in the hot press, there's no change. The screen still looks as if it's got water damage. I'll call GPSWarehouse tomorrow to see what their response is.

Send it to Garmin in Romsey.
I sent a 3 year old e-trex vista back when the screen went funny with lots of black lines and nothing else. They sent a new one in exchange FREE OF CHARGE. Can't fault their customer care.

A new Garmin Quest arrived today! The engineer commented that "I have replaced this unit as a gesture of goodwill but in future please be aware that it is the customers responsibility to ensure any standing water is removed from the screen. If water is left standing on the unit then it will damage the anti-reflective coating as it has on this unit."

Anyone else had a standing water problem? seems a bit strange to me.

Jeremy

Yep.

Same problem, if you get the screen wet the coating becomes very fragile and you can wipe it off. I got mine replaced for this, and they've obviously had a few more cases like it to point it out now.

I made reference to the ads in the bike press showing it as a bike specific unit to reinforce my point when intially requesting a warranty replacement.

It's pretty tough when dry though... :cockeye
