Hi all........
My new 1150gs was delivered yesterday and i'm having problems starting it.
Hopefully somebody may be able to give me some pointers as to what the problem may be.

Firstly, the kill switch/starter button has been broken off, so i don't really know if the switch was broken in the engine kill position.

I can still press the the place where the starter button was (hope that makes sense), and when i do this, i can hear what i think is the fuel pump running when i release the button.
The fuel level bars also disappear when i do this.

I connected the battery to my car with jump leads, and still have the same problem, so i assume that the battery is ok.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dave.

ps. the seller seemed a really genuine guy, and he says that the bike started fine when it was picked up by the courier.

Congrats on your brilliant choice of bike.
It will be the button.
So have you spoken to the courier, was the bike ridden into the van/trailer? seems it happened in transit.

Just been out to the garage for a fiddle. When I turn the kill switch off, the fuel level bars disappear. When I turn the kill switch back on, the bars come back and the fuel pump runs briefly to prime.

Sounds like what you're pressing is causing the kill switch to turn off while it's pressed, maybe?

That does not really make sense - the pump will prime (whine) when the ignition is on, pressing the button stump will drive the starter motor - if its spinning freely and not engaging i would start looking there - search here will help?

Thanks for the replies guys...
Sounds like it must be the broken switchvear causing problems.
Does anyone know where these available to buy, and how easy is
the switchgear to remove?. I tried taking out 2 small side screws, a screw on
the underside, and the inicator cancel button.
It still seems to be stuck firmly in place. Any ideas?
Cheers again
Dave

bit heath robinson... but a quick way to check the starter motor, make sure bikes in neutral, get two screwdrivers make a x shape and short out the two terminals on the s/m. it should spin if theres juice in the battery.

The switch gear being root cause is firm favourite.

after the switch gear, check the cheap stuff first.
neutral selected?
side stand up and bike on centre stand.
fully charge battery and check all connections to it and the starter are corrosion free and tight.
