My new 1600 GT

After 24,000 miles since last June, the bike has done everything and more that I could have asked of it.

Bar the overheating glitch, a faulty main beam switch and its consuming of tyres at an alarming rate it has carried me, my kit, the odd pillion or two on assorted jaunts into Europe without a problem.

Better than my old GSA? Well, it's more comfortable, pushes it out considerably better in the 'umph' department (if that's important) and is less cluttered with bits. Other than a tankbag and sometimes a tailpack I haven't had to add anything to it, bling it or tinker with anything. The lights scorch the trees at night, the cruise control and U-drive whirly-wheel thing all work. I have been down unmade roads, up wet cobbled hills, around hairpins all without too much grief.

Would I change anything? The suspension is starting to feel a bit tired, so probably needs a going over. Given that the bike is 320 kg that is not surprising. I suspect that BMW will release a new version at some point, maybe bringing in the semi-active 'Skyhook' idea. Ohlins may well bring out a suspension kit, just as they have for the 1200GS. That will be worth a go, perhaps? Hopefully it will fit...... Good quality, electronic suspension is obviously getting cheaper for the manufacturers to fit; one really good spin-off from the racing world.

What else? I would move the power outlets from the offside (right) side of the bike and fit a supply that will not be limited to 5 Amps. I will probably do this over the winter.

That's about it.
