My test of a GS12

When I say "rebuilt in my garage", I mean put back together. When you can't rely on a BMW dealer to rebuild a gearbox that will last for more than 16K what hope have you got. Lucky for all you lot L&C (Tun Wells) have given up the bikes bit.

So when you 'put back together' (you forgot the 'properly' bit this time) your bike's gearbox several times, how long did it last before you had to 'put it back together' (properly) again, oh expert one?

Tigers may depreciate at a higher percentage BUT when YOU start off at 10 grand and I at 7 grand work it out how much in ££ you lose at 30% and I lose at 40%. Doh! It's 3 grand for you and 2700 for me. oh dear.[/B]

That's an interesting point. You could ride a new BMW for a year, chop it in and buy a brand new Tiger. No, no, that would be silly. Why not keep the BMW, say, a year and a month or so by which time the depreciation would have swung in the BMW's favour. And you'd still be on a better bike.

Desperately trying to justify your inferior purchase?:blush

Or you could keep the beemer a little longer, say 2 years, sell it and buy 2 tigers of the same age! Then again I think I'll stick with the one GS:D

Alphason,

please change your avatar - I keep on realising I've done nothing but stare at it for minutes on end...

One of our mates, who knows how to ride a bike, refused to have a GS. So he started off with a:

Blackbird, then a
Blade, kept the Blade then bought another
Blackbird, then got rid of it and bought a
TIGER, got rid of it and bought a
Multistrada, got rid of it and bought a
GS1150 loved it and px'd it for a
GS1200

He is now selling the Blade cos he never rides it!

Nuff said :D

Thank you, now feck off and oil your chain.

Now this is the sort of post from a person (esp with just 14 posts on this site) which is making this forum less of the close community it once was.

So, having test ridden the 1200, Howard still rates his Tiger - so what? He has been around this forum (and lots of GS meets) for a long time.

He is a GSer and is entitled to pen his thoughts here without getting this type of crap from someone because it doesn't suit them.

He's gonna keep the 'Blade for trackdays.. should I buy another Aprilia?;)
Happiest day of my life when he sold the Tiger.. I was totally p*ssed off with the constant moaning about how crap it was  Got the same with Guy at work.. spent a fortune on Maxton shocks & he's still not happy.. won't buy a GS though.. too expensive  ;)

Faster than you

Well reasoned and rounded comment.

I bet you're not!!

Naa Naa Na Na Na!

See you after school and punch your lights out!!

Seriously Howard ever heard of humour?

Wow! Someone who's even more sensitive than Howard! JUST 14 posts, eh! Surely he can't have an opinion with ONLY 14 posts. He should keep quiet until he has posted at least as many times as you:D Hey, Pressurized, take my advise, don't post again until you have at least 100 posts under your belt!!

I'd love to but it's Art, init;) ;)

just to say - I think it was a perfectly reasonable test - albeit short. If Howard has decided on the basis of that, then that's up to him - its his opinion.

What's the big deal to you lot ? You've made your decision and everything is subjective.

BMW Dealer trade in prices are laughable - and i'd dare to say the GS12 isn't proving to be the worlds most reliable bike either.

I've never ridden either and have no issues either way - doesn't stop me reading opinions either.

Quite right motomartin. But you realise that some people, Howard included, like to stir up a can of worms every now and then. It gives the rest of a good excuse for a rant, a chance to have a dig at a 'common enemy'!

It's only a bit of fun.

30 years ago, we would argue for hours on the various merits of Yamaha FS1E V Honda SS50. Its heart warming to see, motorcyclists never change. The subject matter just gets more expensive.

Erm, I am a lot of things, but sensitive, me owd son - aint one em. Your quoted post is utter shite because I never suggested that someone with 14 posts could not have an opinion.

Telling someone to feck off aint an opinion - its abuse which we don't need.

Love it!!

Another fine thread example of why this site is a great reason for NOT purchasing a GS.

Please let me apologise for my comment, directed at Howard and picked up by Mark. In the cold light of day (and sobriety) I see it was not in the spirit of this forum and I regret typing it. Emails are a blunt tool to express sentiment and something said in jest can easily be seen as offensive, just as (dare I say it?) Mark's comments made him seem 'sensitive' to some and, perhaps, other things to other participants (I'd put a smiley in here if I knew how). Fourteen posts is a lot for me and I don't think someone's worth should be measured by their perceived seniority but instead by their words - hence my apology. On the whole I think this is an excellent forum and do not wish to degrade or dominate it.

I must admit Howard's post did get me to bite last night. Let's face it, it was probably intended to. Today I'm a bit puzzled by it. It strikes me as odd why someone who had a bad experience with a GS a while ago and who now owns something else would want to remain associated with such a cultish group as GSers. Isn't it just a bit like, well, getting pricked by a thorn on a rose then feeling the urge to run about the Chelsea Flower Show, waving a bouquet of dandelions and shouting out, 'Your flowers are all cr@p!' (A flower analogy? From a biker? Who's sensitive now?)

Fair play, though, Howard definitely did ride the GS, he's spot on about the horn and the indicator: another time when expressing my opinion makes me feel like a bit of a t!t.

You should have the bike you want.

I tried the GS12 last week and found the handling light, smooth and grippy even in shit conditions, the motor was punchy enough for the type of bike, although more vibey than I expected at 90mph+.

Overall I liked it, I want a bike to blast arround on with my girlfiend and also tour Spain and Scotland this year, so I ordered one.

I have a rsvr which I cannot bare to get rid of, to me motorcycling is for excitement and I am not entirely sure Beemers are exciting enough so the rsvr will stay.

everyone has thier opionions and priorities
I want a big traily, never even considered at Tiger, i did consider a KTM but you have to go with your best instincts

is it March yet?

GS

Hey, you all forgot to mention in all this gibberish the one thing that defines your choice of bikes as much as if not more than anything else..

The looks

The tiger is possibly the worst looking trailie I’ve seen IMO. Those strips look like something you’d get on a kid of fours bike. And the tank shape is not much better.

The 1200 gs is a nice and tasteful looking bike something you wouldn’t mind being seen on.

I say this not owning’ either.

The tiger looks like you bought a toy.

And on the price issue… the 1200GS is over priced, but with most sought after and desirable things in life you pay that bit extra for that.

would want to remain associated with such a cultish group as GSers

On this forum members come and go as they please regardless of thier current brand allegiance. Once a tosser, always a tosser. Howard had made a lot of friends whilst in here and feels as comfortable visiting as perhaps walking to the local pub. Why change your mates and habits (if you enjoy them) just cos you try a different brand of bike.

Folk generally come back to the GS eventually anyway.
