Just fitted one of Tobers' finest. Beautifully made, but there are so many ways of adjusting it and I can't seem to find the right position.

I'm 5' 8", and before the Tobinator I found that removing the rear screen bolts and sitting it back against the silver panel was the most comfortable option.

At the moment I either get helmet buffet or straightforward wind blast. I'm hoping to get that still pocket of air around my head that the screen on an RT gives you.

Any ideas, other than endless experimentation?

well yes experimentation is key - each person is different i quess but when i put mine on i only bothered trying 2 different positions because the improvement both times was great...

lent mine back as as it would go (it stops against the original holders) with the back almost at it's lowest.

This way you get loads of air under the screen which stops the buffet and the top of the screen is raised just enough to keep the majority oif the wind off.

The only down side is more wind on your upper body which I think will be a pain when it's wet or cold but not a problem at the moment.

Try this

Mine is like this:

- front legs raised high as pos
- rear legs as low pos
- front legs leant back as far as little plastic screen mount sticky out angle allows - you'll see what I mean when you try it
- screen in "up" position on standard adjustment facility

This is the standard position I use when I fit them for other folks.

Also, here's a great thread that completely contradicts the above advice:

And I put a "useful tips" page on my site here:

Tobers,

dunno if that's how you fitted mine at the hogroast, but it works and I haven't touched it. look at pic in ITALY thread in beakchat & bollox.

Just done 2500 miles to Tuscany and back. I was able to pick my cruising speed at will with no buffetting.

Most comfortable was between 85 and 90, though up to 110 was tolerable for short bursts.

The (black) finish has gone a sort of deep purple colour - I guess the sun does this, but it looks quite natty so I'm not complaining !

Cheers

Purple

Hi Phil,

I fitted yours as described earlier in this thread. Glad it sorted you out on your road trip. Tuscany was beautiful I'll bet.

Regarding going purple, I've had one other mention of a discolouration of the black anodising. I have taken the anodisers to task on this. Its possible that they didn't prepare the process properly on one batch, but I haven't seen it myself yet.

If you want to swap it, let me know.

Cheers

Tobers, just ordered a plain un anodised one today. If you get a purple one back in the next couple of days can i have it very cheap, not a fashion botherer so couldn't care less what colour, didn't purple anodising make a big hit then 6 months later a miss in the mountain bike world in the late 80's early 90's. A renaissance perhaps??

I'm sorry, but if you fit purple accessories you MUST wear split-knee loon trousers with 24-inch flared legs (Colour Co-ordination Act 1970 subsection 3 (i) - Hippy clothing).

And thanks for the advice Tobers, I fitted it as you suggested. Initially I got buffetting, but after lowering the screen on its original mount to round the halfway position everything is now just tickety-boo.

Purple

Actually, the purple Tobinators are an extremely limited and rare batch produced from special NASA aerospace materials. They have amazing anti-gravity capabilities and have negative air resistance.

I've had to keep this quiet so far as I'm under NDA with NASA and have a strict gagging clause.

Tobers (desperate to avoid mass returns of purple Tobinators! :D )
