My Triple black

I admire your brand loyalty :)

Simply the most comfortable bike i have ever ridden. All the power i need or want. Plus beauty is in the ‘eye of the holder’ and i love it. 40,000 miles later and until i struggle too much moving it about, i cant think of anything better.

I have a 1250 GSA TB arriving on Thursday. So far in my GSA history I replaced my Hex Head battery after it failed with 9 months, my LC battery after 4 months after it failed to start at a filling station (before anyone makes the comment, i used my bikes all year round and they live on BMW chargers). So im swapping the battery as soon as it gets here and before i need BMW’s breakdown service again :beerjug: its the only time i have ever needed them.

Keeping bikes on battery chargers will fry the battery - happened to a couple of mates of mine. I use my bike all year round (always have) and have never used a trickle charger.
My wife’s LC wouldn’t start the other day, after a couple of months standing, I jumped it off mine and it’s fine now.

Good luck with the bike

For the touring abs adventure riding I went from GSA TC to KTM790R and back to GSA. It’s all so familiar and the balance is so good. I don’t ride quickly, but the acceleration if markedly better then the last one I had. Pleased so far.

I had forgotten how owning a GS is continual shopping for accessories.

Thank you. Any issues with tracker, alarm or bike electronics when disconnecting and installing a new battery ?

My bike Reg is recognised yet but he websites that provide compatible batteries. Is the one you fitted the biggest option that fits ? I dont mind paying more for more assurance if it fits, etc

Got two texts from Biketrac to say it was off bike power.

No issues with bike.

The one I quoted is not listed for the 1250, but it does fit straight in - it is a fair bit more expensive than the standard replacement Yuasa @ £148 delivered.

Yofi don't blame me if the dutch BOS does not sound as good as the slowenian Akra EU-3 , the one where you still can remove the db-killers easily...:thumb That one has a very deep & throaty sound and has probably the nicest build quality from all exhaust systems on the market...Second choice probably would have been the Remus 8 that is a little louder but not as deep in sound.Unit Garage makes also very good quality and interesting sounding exhaust systems if you can go by the dual exhaust system my friend has on his R Nine T...Awesome sound that scares even Harley riders...:D
Good luck with the BOS...hope you like it !

This one by motobatt is a third of the price with the same spec, near as damn it same size and 4 terminals so easier connection for ancillaries.

or this one which is Lithium so only 5ah but huge cca of 350a is still cheaper at over a third off.

might be worth a look.

Tayna is where I bought my Yuasa.

I was aware of the alternatives and was happy to pay for the Yuasa.

Tayna were very good to deal with.

Is a lithium battery okay in cold weather ?

I understand you have to 'warm' them up a bit before trying to start the engine.

Mines used all year round and currently sits outside, so I was wary.

The other things that put me off is the fact that you have a lithium specific charger (another purchase, but shouldn't be needed if used all year) and the low ah rating with the tracker drawing current too.

Is a lithium battery okay in cold weather ?

I would say just be aware. I have one on my 2017 GS Rallye and it is brilliant generally. incredibly light and small but has always turned over the bike perfectly and in a year never needed charging. However during the cold snap last month I left it parked outside work in -1 with a stiff wind chill and it was dead when I tried to start it to leave work. Because I was aware of this issue with lithium batteries I turned on the lights and left it for 30 secs. I then tried to start it again and it half turned the engine. waited another 30secs, tried again and it started. I effectively warmed it ups by turning on the lights and trying to start it (complete opposite to a flat battery as it was not flat just cold). The battery was perfect later after sitting near a warm engine and working. the following day I had the same issue due to the cold.

I have taken mine out of the Rallye to keep as it cost me a few bob and will put it into my inbound GSA TB. In Jersey it rarely gets as cold as last month so I can live with this odd hiccup however if you commute in cold winters and leave the bike outside I would take this into consideration.

I bought an optimate lithium charger and found that after a years daily use (short 5 mile commutes) it took about 15 mins to charge to full......

I just saw in the manual the performance of the BMW fitted lithium battery. Interesting, thank you.
