What started off in January 2008 as a standard XChallenge with 40 miles on the clock has slowly developed into this:
The bike as it stands has the front end from an KTM 690 enduro R, with talon wheel. It's currently running standard weight springs (for a 690R)
The original headlight and dashboard electrics have been fitted to the KTM yokes via a bit of homemade bracketry, made from sheet alluminium:
The standard lighting is pretty crap, and not wanting to make things complex with going the HID route, a pair of 30x LED's have been fitted.
I'm still not sold on the idea of a rallye style cockpit, or huge screen, as they get in the way of any impromtu "superman" impressions, but i might change my mind after the next trip.
Extra fuel capacity is provided for in the shape of a hotrod welding fuel tank at the back. I think the XC has a lot of weight over the front wheel, so i didn't want to go the TT tank and increase this further.
While i had the back end of the bike in bits to fit a fully adjustable hyperpro rear shock (sourced from those nice people at Rugged roads), i took the opportunity to get some bracing welded into the subframe:
The bike is now wearing a recovered seat, the work has been done by Ray in Holland, but this combined the shock being set as recommended makes the bike a little on the tall side, to the point a need a stepladder to get onto it
Other mods include a pace radiator, and some of stephans items (bash plate and case saver.). The TT rear rack has also been extended to support a roll bag across it's width.
It starts the TAT in 7 days time- fingers crossed i remembered to do all the bolts up
