Mysterious GS saddle chemical attack

Stopped during a ride today and noticed a big splat on my lid, way too big for a bug, didn't really register it at the time. Not a problem will clean it with Plexus when I get in.

Putting the bike away I noticed that the saddle had an area polished smooth on one side which shouldn't happen on a 3 month old GS. Checked my HG trousers for a corresponding wear mark, none whatsoever. Strange!

After the ride I put the lid down on the table and noticed it had a residue with the same dimple pattern as the saddle cover. The stuff would have been in the same area as the mysterious splat. Thinking back I did rest the helmet on the saddle to fasten the chin strap to carry it around the dealers (trying to get a mate to change to a BMW).

Just makes you wonder what's being flung around on the roads or falling from the sky.

if u were anwhere near an airport then it sounds like hydraulic fluid called skydrol, its nasty stuff and eats most plastics, even eats brass etc. just make sure to wash ur hands!

Hi Swissrob,

Skydrol is a possibility because I was very close to Filton airport near Bristol. In fact the route that I took was generally under the approaches for both Filton and Bristol Airports.

The original splat, from what I remember was viscous looking, googled Skydrol and would've wiped a white tissue over it to check for the colour if I'd heard about it. Whatever it was, it was unusual stuff. Thanks for the reply. :thumb2

It's Acid poop from a a lesser Spotted Giant Duck Billed Starling........:blast

Possible, I understand they're flying some strange stuff out of Slimbridge at the moment. There are rumours of it being a wildfowl equivalent of area 51.:eek
