Maybe this mystery has been long solved?
If not then I wonder if there is any correlation between the valve-component and the fitting of ABS? Not that they are mechanically related. But I have a new in March 2005 non-ABS model 1200GS and I certainly don't have 'the valve'?
As I said I am sure this is old news and resolved....

I don't know if it has or hasn't but i have the 05 wiv abs and no valve  but at least i have 2 keys

Spoke to pidcock's mechanic & its a valve to release pressure @ high rpm but i thint it went the same way as the tool kit /spare key  with or with out ABS must have saved another £10 per bike :P

I asked a mechanic at Vines today, and he had no idea what it was, and could not understand why I wanted to know. I asked him if he could find out, but he seemed fairly dissinterested. I don't expect I will hear from him.

Mystery?

Nope.

Purpose of the valve is as above.

Newer bikes don't have them, ABS or not, in order to save BWM money.

1 key, smaller toolkit & no valve.
