Can anybody tell us what this connector is meant to be connected to ? 2001 1150.

That is for the USA versions. It goes to a solenoid for "emmisions recovery" aka the charcoal canister.

Don't worry about it, just tuck it back up and away.

The wrong side !!! Are you serious ? Feck me if thats for real. Very few would even display here in Ireland... and if they did it would be to cover half the number plate. If you get stopped here you just take it out of your pocket.
