You can buy a set of various little tools to separate different terminal types for a few quid - amazon, ebay, usual suspects.

Ta. Looking deeper in to it the BMW connector blocks with the bullet style pins seem to be a bit special and my normal tool set doesn't work. Have got some thin wall brass tube which will hopefully be the right size to pip them out. Thanks for the replies.

OK, here's how you do it. Most commercial connector removers won't fit, and the special BMW tool is seventy quid. So get a piece of 4.5mm thing wall brass tubing and make your own. And yes, it works.
