I spoke with NWS today about progress with their R1200GS hugger. They reckon it'll be ready about the end of January, plastic £80ish and carbon fibre about £140.

I've never owned one but I believe that traditionally they are biased towards effectiveness rather than ascetics, which I'd prefer.

Also, has anyone got a Laser Duotech can fitted to their 12? I'd very much like to know what they're like. Are they worth £190 (stainless)?

I've had 3 NWS huggers on my VFR's, all have been brilliant, and worked great.

If NWS can bring one out at that price i'll have one :)

Likewise, I have a carbon fibre NWS hugger on my VFR. I'm pleased enough with mine to recommend it unreservedly whenever anyone asks about huggers for a VFR.

ISTR it was about £120 some 5 years ago, so if they're going to be doing ones for the 1200 GS at £140 I guess that's not too bad in comparison.

Of course I am a member of an ER-5 group. If I wasn't I wouldn't have found out how good they are :D

£80, that's more like it for a hugger. Had a NWS hugger on my CBR, they are 'fit for purpose', nothing fancy, but its only a fekkin mudgard, certainly not worth spending £200 on.

I think you mean "aesthetics" - "ascetic" means someone who lives a life of spiritual devotion, bereft of material comforts. Certainly not a GS rider!! :D

Sorry WW, couldn't resist that one :D

The plastic (I really hate the look of carbon fibre) one for £80 sounds fantastic to me. The one fitted to the ER5 looks good.

Perhaps so, but the problem with plastic huggers is that they often wilt and find themselves draped over the rear tyre with whom they form a mutually abrasive relationship. Well laminated carbon-fibre is inherently more rigid and therefore much more suitable as a material out of which to construct a hugger.

Yeah, that's why all stock fenders are made from plastic...

Truth is there's plastic and then there's plastic.

A much maligned material that's got many forms!

I got an email from NWS today:

"Hello, thank you for your enquiry. We should have our
GS1200 Hugger in production by mid January. Cost will
be aprox. £90.00 in black grp. or £140.00 in carbon. No
pics available yet. Simon, NWS"

It seems the price of the black version has gone up after just one day :(

Ive had 2 NWS huggers and can honestly say they have been top qaulity.

Finish is very good, they come with good fitting instructions and all the bits & bobs you need.

The holes line up and the fittings dont pit or rust up.

As long as it dont look like a barn door the NWS will be going on my 1200, especially if they do it in that silver ghost material of theirs.
