Just ridden from Grenoble to Grasse on the 85
From Castellane onwards every bloody hairpin had diesel on it
To be fair there were signs warning you but it made me nervous
I felt sorry for lone guy high up in the hills spreading sand on every slick

Does this happen often?

Hope it's gone by the time I ride home

It was diesel free last Saturday too. Don't know when you're heading back north (or how much time you have), but if you wanted to skip that section there is a great route (possibly better, certainly less traffic) from Nice to Castellane via Route de Digne, Gillette, Roquesteron, Puget-Theniers etc etc and finally past the lake and into Catellane. Lovely roads and not down by the head with touring bikes and cars.

Cheers, I might give that a try

Definitely better - and if you bolt in the loop up through Gorge du Cians to Valberg and back down through the Gorge du Daluis from Guillaumes, you're onto an absolute winner... Takes longer, but worth it!

In the end I went back up the N85 to Sisteron, then turned left and went up the D93 which is a stunning road, then up to Romans-Sur-Isere
