Hi guys,

Whilst we were away in France, I noticed that a sideways push on the scroll wheel no longer changes the screen on my Nav 5. It works with my mates Nav 6, so its not the bike.
Does anyone know if its a setting on the nav that i may have altered or turned off, or a software update required maybe?
It is quite odd because if i tap on the speed tab when im on either the map screen or route screen, the screen then changes to the data screen.
The unit is just less than 2 years old, whats the warranty on the unit? and is the warranty with Garmin or BM?

Thanks in advance

Stu

Have you dropped the bike on that side at all, an impact can shift the wheel control a smidgen out of alignment - easy to push back.
Sounds like it might have been.

if its worked before ,And the side push does change screen on the Nav 5 or 6, sounds like an issue. did you try your mates 6 on your bike ? its might be that your bike needs a software update ,if its still under warranty drop it into the local stealers

Try cleaning the contacts on the mount first. I had similar problem. I used a stiff nylon brush on the contacts on the Nav mount, and then sprayed contact cleaner on them, also clean the contacts on the back of the Nav. The wheel then worked a treat, as the problem was that the wheel could not make contact with the Nav.

The bike hasn't been dropped, and the scroll wheel is physically fine, i've had it in bits cleaned it. I put my mates Nav 6 on my bike and my scroll wheel works it as it should do, when i put my Nav 5 on his bike, it acts just the same as on my bike, so it must be the Nav not the bike.

Thats why i wondered if its a setting or software issue.

I'll drop the stealers a line and see if its still covered.

Cheers guys

Stu, clean the contacts on the back of your Nav. If they are not making proper contact with yours, or your friends mount, that could be the problem, if it is that,, then it’s an easy fix.

If the contacts clean doesn’t work, call Garmin support, they’re normally very good & will talk you through a reset procedure, if that doesn’t work you’ll need a replacement.

I hade the same problem as the OP and thought a trip to the dealer to have a new scroll wheel fitted was on the cards.

Thanks to the advice in this thread, a good clean of the contacts and all is well again. Cheers everyone

Its also worth checking where the bike wiring harness plugs into the GPS. Right hand of the fairing by the right fork. Mine has had a loose connection there before and gave similar issues (although I think everything stopped working for me).

It was defo a problem with the unit, as my bike would go through the screens with my mates 6 in my cradle.

Anyhow, i've just had it plugged into the laptop and ran an update check through Basecamp, which came up with 1 update which has cured the problem, everything works now.

Thanks for you replies and help guys
