I have had the Nav 5 on my S1000XR’s with 1000’s of euro miles covered over resent years with fantastic reliability. I’ve been using connected ride/iphone on my RT the past couple of years, but I much preferred the simplicity of Nav5, (and I prefer to have my phone quickly available for photos, not linked to satnav).

Will the Nav 5 fit and work on my soon to be delivered R1300GSA?

It's the same nav preparation that has been on the 1200's and 1250's for some time. So, so yes it will.

Thanks GSian, I had read somewhere that I might need some kind of conversion plate. Great news!

Not unless they've changed it since I had a go on one a couple of months ago. Don't think they have.

I’ve got the Nav5 in my gs1300 as well,no problems at all with it on any of my bikes and no thoughts of upgrading.

Penny might have just dropped Stanlum looking at your location, did you take the Vertu/Jefferies GSA demo out after me?, I was a bit late getting it back (but they had said take as long as you need in my defence) seem to recall you said you were heading back to Pately Bridge

Nav 5 on the R1300GS
That's like fitting a cassette tape player into a Tesla :ROFLMAO:

Yep! That’s me, I had it overnight and the following day, what a great machine, I took the auto out afterwards, it was nice but I think I still need a clutch leaver! The quick shifter is very smooth on the 13. Looking forward to 1st March. 😎

It is a great bike very engaging and fun, hence me staying out a bit longer blissfully unaware it was needed back, was only on it as I was in for work on mine and it was free for a bit, the sales rep Rich said do you want a go on it.

Rich did say some people not bonding with the asa/auto and found it shifting on or ahead of corners when they didn't really want it to.

Congrats on the new bike!(y)

I've used the nav 5 and nav 6 on previous gs/gsa and the rs models found them to be all I need for my simple navigation needs /bike information.. but do have the new connect and ride nav on my r1300 gs.. it's defo the better nav faster at uploading/bigger screen and clearer screen.. etc.. providing it used the way its designed for which I don't.. then suppose it's worth the upgrade.. I only got the connect and ride nav as got it chucked in as well as the oem battery optimate charger with the r1300 gs.. but to be honest for my use the nav 6 was more than enough for my need's I defo would not have paid the retail cost of the connect and ride nav as I would not use its full functions.. as I'm a old git and can't be bothered with all that:DD

I rode yesterday. I have the BMW nav. I reiterate my previous opinion - a retrograde step.

I have a Zumo XT on my RT. Night and day better.

I have the new cradle on my R1300RS, ie the one which you press the button underneath to get the top part to rise so you can insert the Nav5, which as reported fits, although when it warms up after use is quite hard to get back out. The problem I have though, is that whenever I connect it and switch on the ignition it resets trip1 to zero, and that stays at zero throughout the trip. Trip2 is unaffected and works ok, but this isn't ideal as it works slightly differently to trip1. As far as I can tell everything else works, although I haven't tried the media side of things, and others in another thread have reported issues there. Has anyone else had this trip1 problem, and if so do you know a way around it, and, perhaps more importantly, is it something which could cause other more serious problems? As further tests, I have tried it on a R1250RS and it works ok (and always did with my R1200s and R1250), and also I tried it on another R1300 (a GS with the same cradle) and it didn't work there either. The dealer hasn't come across this problem, and doesn't want to contact BMW until it has had the bike in to plug it into the diagnostic kit and sent off the data, which I can do(bit of faff, though, having to book the bike in etc) but wonder if anyone here has any experience of this. Any advice would be appreciated.

the solution is simple.
RTF manual to make sure you haven’t missed anything.
Take it back to the dealer for a warranty repair IE, get the software sorted.

Thanks. Manual has been read, and re-read, dealer is basically blaming the Nav V (well out of warranty so will cost) however they have offered to plug the bike on to their computer with the nav V connected and download all the data and send it to BMW. I will do that, unless I can sort it out with help from this forum, but to be honest I think they are more interested in selling me a connected ride one. Not sure about that...

Can you get hold of another sat nav to try ?

Unfortunately not. However, I am inclined to think that the one I have is working ok because it is ok on the R1250RS we tried at the Dealer.

There is one thing I could try, that is to reset it to factory defaults, to get rid of all references to my old R1250RS and see if that makes any difference. It might. I think that involves starting the Nav V while at the same time pressing the bottom right of the screen until the ‘system’ appears on the screen, then say ‘yes’ to the question about erasing all data. I have a backup on basecamp, so should be able to put back anything I want (saved trips etc). I will report back what I find.

It didn't make any difference. I can tell it has reset because it now has the VIN for the R1300RS in 'My Motorcycle', 'Status' where previously it had the old R1250RS. But it still reset the trip1 to zero after about five seconds. I suppose I will have to go back to the dealer, unless anyone has any better ideas?
