New (5miles) GS as loan bike for last couple of days. Interesting (annoying) new feature is when you put hazard lights on you get an annoying beeping coming over audio ! Goes over the top of instructions from Nav or music. My setup is Nav6 and BMW Comms in helmet.

Yes I get exactly the same problem on my 2017 GSA. I use the Nav6 with smh5 headset and the hazards really mess with it, sometimes to the point that I have to turn the headset off and on so that it works properly again. On occasions the bleeping continues up to 20 seconds after turning off the hazards which is a pain. Learned to live with it now and only use the hazards when absolutely necessary.

A lot of horse riders round these parts Oh! and suicide sheep so use them regularly if in a group and to alert other road users.

Neither seem like good reasons for hazard lights. You might want to check your Highway Code as well.

I use them when filtering through traffic. I couldn't give a stuff in its not in the Highway Code tbh - I'd rather a driver thinks 'whose that wanker with his hazards on' than not see me and pull across the 2lines of traffic without looking....ditto full beam on occasion..

Thank you Pilot, I will obviously bow to your superior knowledge of NOT making other road users aware of a possible hazard

If you think hazards will protect you in those circumstances I think you're very much mistaken. The judicious use of full beam however might make a difference. That said, I have been badly dazzled, both in 2 wheels and when in my car, by those who seem to think poorly adjusted high wattage LED spotlights are the answer.

Not quite what I said. Taking your post at face value, if those in your group can see your hazards and, presumably you slowing and/ or pointing the hazard out, then I would really hope they can see the hazard. As to alerting other users of a hazard there are some occasions when this is helpful I will agree, and I sometimes do that as well - also flashing headlights is very useful. But the Highway Code is clear as to when hazards may be used - perhaps for good reason?

full beam and hazards when filtering ? really ! just add polite vest to top up the knob status:D

Worked out fine for the last 20yrs and seeing the cars move over a touch like Moses parting the waves seems to work out just fine for me :)

...I've owned a Polite vest as well.

Depends how many miles you do a year and what kind of riding - works for me.

Think you'll find it's called "common sense"....Now please go away....There's a good chap.

why does it depend on how many miles you do and what type of riding you do?

If you're riding at the weekend down country lanes and the like, there's less likelihood of you filtering etc. If you're commuting a reasonable distance through heavy traffic - more likely to filter. If you ride more miles and do the latter - even more chance of filtering :)
I'm sure what people are saying about the Highway Code is all absolutely correct - just as I'm sure I looked a right wanker in my Polite vest for a couple of years. Just my view of what works for me.

....I also ride with my driving/fog lights on my GSA - day or night.....I'm sure that will annoy people too - but there's more chance of people seeing me again. I'm too old and bald to worry about what people think of me tbh (although my therapist says that's just buried deep inside....and should talk about it...).

Flipper_Man, having flashers on when filtering is delusional. Think about it - will someone see a high beam or a weak set of flashers in their side/rear view mirrors? Just keep the high beam on and you will be fine.

Ride safe.

I bet you did and that cancer has started to spread here. They should be banned personally and only because they look like a police vest

Personally quite like them but everyone can have their own opinion. Lots of Chief Constables like em as well.
