NAV 6 & Latest GS

Flipper_Man, having flashers on when filtering is delusional. Think about it - will someone see a high beam or a weak set of flashers in their side/rear view mirrors? Just keep the high beam on and you will be fine.

Ride safe.

Logic suggests that putting them on means there's more chance of being seen than less right ?

That is where logic fails. Think about it, when you change lanes in a car, how long do you look at the mirror - a fraction of a sec - too less a time to register a blinker/flasher versus a headlight - especially on high beam (ever wondered why the emergency vehicles have so many lights? :) )

....I also ride with my driving/fog lights on my GSA - day or night.....I'm sure that will annoy people too - but there's more chance of people seeing me again. I'm too old and bald to worry about what people think of me tbh (although my therapist says that's just buried deep inside....and should talk about it...).
Riding at night with your driving/fog lights on just because you can is downright dangerous. It blinds oncoming traffic - would you drive your car with full beam headlights all the time? And if they're badly adjusted it is also a hazard during the day. By all means use them if there is a real need, but don't just do it automatically.

Didn't know the GS/GSA came with "Fog lights"....maybe they are extra's 'or' are people confusing what are "Day time running lights" You know....them things that BMW have developed and researched the safety affect with numerous agency's....even the triangular placement on the bike for the most effect!!

What do they know eh!

I am not totally convinced that having hazards on when filtering make it any better to be seen over your head lights on and especially if you have full beam too. If you cause an accident and some of the blame were alid at your door, you could be in serious shit, as for Horses, Sheep etc., lead rider in the group as soon as they see sticks there hand high in the air, so we all know there is a serious hazard in front and we might have to stop, actually quicker than trying to faff around looking for a hazard light switch.

I reckon you know exactly what was meant when Flipper referred to driving/lights - and it ain't the normal daytime running lights ffs. The extra LED spots that seem to adorn many adventure bikes aren't for routine road use, and especially not to be used all the time at night. Use them as intended and they are excellent, but used inconsiderately they are at best bloody annoying to other road users and at worse bloody dangerous.

+1 - couldn't agree more !

If your so ferkin cleaver at reading others peoples minds then you'll know just what I'm thinking :green gri....I didn't refer to "FOG LIGHTS" but the confusion between "DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS"...."ffs"
Just read what your own post states...."Use them as intended and they are excellent"....They are called "DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS"....and when as it been safer to take you hand of the bars to point at a sheep in long grass or anything else that is not in plain sight to others.....rather than flick a switch.

I think tis you who are confused - you DID refer to fog lights and then intimated that there was confusion between daytime running lights and LED spots. Your comment re a triangular arrangement suggests to me that you think the additional LED spots are indeed daytime running lights - which they most certainly aren't ! Anyway, carry on doing what you think fit with your hazards if that's what makes you happy.

As for Polite Bibs, there is one and one reason only why people wear them, IT IS TO GET OTHER DRIVERS AND RIDERS TO THINK YOU ARE POLICE, if you were that concerned about being seen you be seen more if removing the polite and have a higher reflected area that the words polite written on your bib.
The Reason Police like you wearing them is clearly for this reason as it makes it look like they have a greater presence on the road.
Some police do not like it as it is border line impersonating a police officer, Again one day it is going to cause a major accident, and the wearer suddenly might be thrown in the spotlight with blame.

NOPE!! There you go again....Looking and not seeing....You missed the quotes ".."

Lets get this straight, I don't give a preverbal flying .... What people wear or do, they can go down the road with lights blazing, hazards on, white helmet, loud exhaust and whistling ferkin Dixie....If it works for them then good on them....I would rather have someone say "Who the feck does he think he is"..than.."Sorry officer I didn't see him"

So thank you for your blessing on carrying on what I want too do....and please let me extend the sentiment back....Go and do one!

You clearly don't give proverbial do you ....... and I didn't tell you to do one, but I will now - dickhead.

Not with people like you:dabone....Read the ferkin post you quoted Mr Barse

It is not who is right, but what is right, that is of importance.

New (5miles) GS as loan bike for last couple of days. Interesting (annoying) new feature is when you put hazard lights on you get an annoying beeping coming over audio ! Goes over the top of instructions from Nav or music. My setup is Nav6 and BMW Comms in helmet.

WOW... this thread certainly took a change in what the original quote was about..

FWIW, I too use hazards when filtering but that is because I have the EZcan wired to the auxiliary LED's that I installed. These alternate on/off against the hazards.

Now, I really have no issue with anyones personal negative comments on this, should they wish to make one, after all, we are all entitled to our opinions.

All I know is this... since installing and using, it 'seems' as though more drivers are aware of me and it makes me 'feel' safer when riding through the traffic 'believing' (rightly or wrongly :nenau) that I can be seen / noticed much easier. If plod ever had an issue with this, I would be more than happy to chat with them about it.

Read it again. Still formed the same opinion, so clearly you didn't explain yourself very well. If you hadn't been so f....g patronising with your early replies I might have an ounce of interest in what you have to say. The fact you think your Huxley quote vindicates your diatribe says a lot about how you think.

A well considered point of view. I am firmly of the opinion that filtering needs to be done carefully and considerately and we need to take care not to intimidate those stuck in the queue; we don't have a right to force our way through. Flashing LEDs and hazards can easily be construed as aggressive and will certainly defeat the object in a lot of car drivers eyes. If you read some of the comments on YouTube videos aggressive filtering really pisses off a lot of car drivers.

Absolutely... by aggressive i am assuming you mean those that either 'race' through at some ridiculous speed or others that rev loudly, beep horns and or flash lights where they cannot get through.

Agreed also that filtering is not necessarily our right but thankfully most drivers, myself included, see no reason to hold up a motorbike when stuck in traffic and happily move over a bit to let them through.

For me, once the traffic gets to about 30mph again, I just join the mainstream and if a driver is unwilling to pull over a bit to let me through then that's OK.... after all, i doubt it would hold me up for more than a few seconds anyway in the greater scheme of things. :beerjug:

If I misunderstood what you meant about daytime running lights then I apologise. Hopefully by reading what you wrote - highlighted in bold - you may understand how I got confused I honestly didn't realise you thought the additional LEDs that were designed by BMW were Daytime Running Lights
Sorry, but can't seem to get rid of the bold formatting on my comment.
