Hi All,

I know it’s prob been done a thousand times and I’ve read up on here but I’d appreciate some basic advice.

I usually use a Zumo XT and love it.

I’m headed of a trip on my Rocket and don’t want to have the mounting faff.

Trip is mainland Europe, nowhere too jazzy.

I have the phone and a touring SIM card so no data dramas.

I have the phone mounted and powered from the usb.

I guess my question is,

What software or app would you recommend.

Google Maps

Apple Maps

Another App ?

Beeline - on the phone ?

Thanks in advance.

Really depends on what you want to do, just A to B or design routes or follow routes that have been planned by others. A to B any of your suggestions will do. But they won't all allow you to load a gpx and follow a predefined or planned route.l

Personally I use a mixture of my XT and My Route App, depending which vehicle/bike I am on.

For simple A to B to C to…..G it’s hard to beat Google Maps as it’s free and has a basic ‘avoid motorways’ option.

If though you want to create your own bespoke routes, then MyRoute’s Navigation app, married to MyRoute’s Routeplanner application (which is cloud based) is very popular on these pages.

It all depends on what you want or need the applications to do.

There’s a broadly similar thread running:

Where, unsurprisingly, bods have all sorts of views as to what is best.

Thanks, I’m v familiar with google so I’ll prob go there and add a few legs to take me in my preferred routing.

Thanks

A-B Google is fine, just download the offline maps, but you know that. I prefer MRA, but that's me, I have the regions downloaded offline for MRA as well and all my routes are as Wapping says are cloud based so can be imported, modded anywhere I have a data connection.

Only thing I would be mildly concerned about, is if the heatwave is ongoing, make sure the iPhone has some airflow. In France in early June just at the start of the heatwave my iPhone overheated and packed in while running MRA and an audiobook. No real drama as I needed a break anyway. I ended up sticking it in my Klim Marrakesh chest pocket for a bit while riding and it cooled it right down :)

Again, all things a man of your calibre will have already thought of :)

No mate.

I just pack 2 pairs of Y Fronts and leg it

I think I will download the maps despite having no data limits, also I’ll take my beeline just in case
