Anyone else had this issue? Software is up to date but the unit keeps freezing, voices are stuttering, maps are not updating when i move? Coming back from Oxford yesterday the unit was showing me as next to the M40 (not actually on it) no other roads or details on the map and eventually greyed out and froze???

Any ideas before i head back to BMW with it?

The symptoms you describe are typical of a device that cannot locate enough satellites to calculate its position. The device then uses so much umph trying to find out where it is, it struggles to do anything else.

If I had to guess, it's replacement time but have a go at:

1. Cleaning all the electrical contacts, just in case some muck is causing it.

2. Clean the SD card contacts, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery in the process

3. Back up everything and do a hard re-set

Nah, feck it. If it's under warranty, troll around to your local dealership and get a new one. If they refuse, kill them. Kill them all!

Yeah, mine does something similar occasionally. It either freezes or doesn't start when I start the engine and move off promptly.
I don't notice immediately so I'm driving with a blank screen. eeek!
Solution is to remove from mount and press the on/off button until something happens.
Not easy with one gloved hand, but much easier if I use both hands and cruise control...

My Nav V started to regularly freeze when the unit was refreshing the maptiles it was using to put up on the screen. Sometimes the screen would freeze completely and at others it seems unable to pull up the maps and so I had large grey tiles showing on the screen.

This started happening immediately after doing the latest (2017.10??) map update. The SD card was 16Gb and was pretty much full with maps and music files.

I bought a new 32Gb card, transferred the maps and music files over from the old card and everything has been working ok since.

May have been that the old card was fecked in some way.

Or it may have been an issue because the card was so full of data - perhaps the Nav V needs a certain amount of free space on the card (where it is reading the maps) to buffer in some way. But that is a pure guess based on the fact that the bigger capacity card seems to be working fine

Thanks for all the advice guys, took the unit into Bahnstormer yesterday and a replacement was soon ordered. Should be with me next week...

Excellent. A premium price for a premium product and all that that implies.

The 660 / Nav IV had very similar problems when it was first released, all down to its (faster) processor being unable to latch onto enough satelites and process the much more detailed map tiles simultaneously. This resulted in freezes and greyed-out map tiles. The glitch was fixed via a software update. Very full SD cards may well be creating a similar problem on newer devices.... Take all your music and other junk off them folks; or at least tidy them up.

PS Thread now tidied to exclude the posts about Bluetooth problems and lack of sound. These now have their own thread. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showth...-problems-Autocom-Nav-V?p=4396247#post4396247
