Nav V mini USB suspect?

Transferred all my Basecamp info. to a new pc on Saturday and copied my routes over my (two month old) Nav V no problem. Watched a load of Basecamp video tutorials on Sunday and tried a few new things and went to copy one to my Nav V but the Nav V couldn't be found. I tried to download BMW POI via Garmin POI software and it couldn't find my device either. I've now tried three different cables and three different laptops to no avail!
Has anyone had trouble with their Nav V this way? I'm blaming the mini USB connection at the back but I could be wrong.

Constructive answers only, please, as software and bad connectors do my head in!

If you're looking for your Nav V to appear as a drive letter in 'My Computer' then I think you need to set it to 'mass storage' mode. Have a look here http://www.motofans.be/gps/55-bmw-n...r-v-mass-storage-mode-vs-mtp-auto-detect-mode. You should see the internal memory of the Nav V and the SD card (if fitted) as separate drive letters. I've got my Nav V set in this way and it works fine with Basecamp.

If you set it to this mode then I think it is good practice to 'eject' the device through Windows before unplugging the USB cable.

I had a usb failure on my Nav 5, its a poxy small port and easy damaged ..mine wouldn't update or do anything, i couldnt take it back to the dealer as i bought it from a chap on here ..still under warranty but BMW couldnt be bothered as i didnt get it direct from them. if its still in warranty take it back to your dealer if its not ring the guy at Garmin support (think his names steve and very helpful) he replaced mine for a new one FOC

Thanks for the feedback; very much appreciated. I don't where you found all this out Tomcat but thanks. It'd be much easier if Garmin gave complete instructions for the Nav V and how to run basecamp using all the bells and whistles! It's not like it's a cheap product.

My Garmin 390 is very fussy about usb connections. I find it best placed face down with the lead sticking straight up IYSWIM.

Had similar issue with my Nav5, refusing to connect to my Macbook.

Supplying dealer - Vines, Guildford - said "oh, they never connect to Macs - tough".

Favourite dealer - Bahnstormer, Alton - said "that's ridiculous. It's a faulty unit." Daren at Bahnstormers had the unit replaced under warranty. New one works fine.

I'm in the market for a second bike and a new car. Strangely enough, I don't plan to visit Vines...
