Yes - good advice. I used to import routes exported from MyRoute into BaseCamp just to check/tweak and then transfer to the Nav V. The export from MyRoute is now working with my Nav V (it wasn't initially) so I'm now trying to go direct, and as I have the Gold version I can get it to use the Garmin maps to compare. I've still had occasional issues with routes not re-calculating properly on the Nav and staying as point to point straight lines between waypoints. If this happens changing the vehicle type can force a recalculation, so I think further experimentation is required, but it is getting there.

I usually have to make a few more waypoints to force it to go the right way. Same thing happens with Tomtom maps.

Suppose you could always just create the route in here maps.

Have you tried MyRoute from the makers of Tyre? Allows you to plan routes on your laptop in a web app using maps from Google or your satnav, and upload to your satnav. They also have a sister app called MyRoute Navigation which can take these routes and use them to provide a full satnav type facility on your phone. I've now pretty much abandoned BaseCamp which I hate with a vengeance for its convoluted illogicality and plan all my routes using MyRoute. I still prefer a dedicated satnav (Nav V) to the phone app, but the latter makes a good backup if needed as it can have offline maps downloaded to it so does not need to rely on a phone signal.

I don't want to use anything that needs a phone or wifi signal and really can't see the need to use anything else when Mapsource just works. So much easier to use than Basecamp but still uses the same maps as I have on my device.

Using co pilot on an IPhone doesn’t need a phone signal as it has dedicated gps and you load the maps onto the phones memory. Easy to use compared to clunky garmins . Used it all over Europe, plus US and South Africa.

I have Co-Pilot on my Android phone and it is fine as a standard satnav, but when I looked into this some time ago I concluded that it was impractical/impossible to use this with pre-planned routes, which I find is an essential requirement if you want to have any control over your overall route, what specific roads you want to use, finding pre-booked hotels, etc. It is also essential when I go on organised tours when I just load each day's route into my satnav and then don't have to ride in the group, but go at my own speed and just meet up with others at lunch stops and hotels. The MyRoute Navigation satnav phone app is the first one I have found which is designed to facilitate the use of pre-planned routes.

I just drop some waypoints and end up going where I want to go......but agree that co pilot doesn’t work if you need to import routes. I did buy a Garmin in 2016, my first since an old SP111, found it impossible to set up the routes for a navigation rally, decided I was too ancient to spend too much of my life relearning Garmin and went back to co pilot. Maps Me works for trails etc.
