I just wanted to ask, has anyone else experienced when following an up loaded route or direct A-B routing my early Nav6 and a friends later Nav6 both have habit of diverting a route via a Lay-by, residential service road, unpaved road or via an industrial estate. When scrolling out you can see the direct route clearly then look closely and it wants to route via a lay-by for instance, so following a recent European tour we spent much of our time checking the route while riding. The settings in general are fastest route, avoid-residential roads, unpaved roads, U-turns. Incidentally if you decide not to follow the route the first that happens "when safe do a U-turn".

What I'm asking is "is it just me".

It often helps if you share the troublesome GPX file.

If I had to guess, it is (maybe) the way the route has been created, possibly with waypoints (points you have told the device you must go through) and these being possibly badly positioned.

Thanks for the reply I know what you are saying but these are unrelated to waypoints. It I do a straightforward A-B route on the Nav6 ie where I am now to a hotel so 1 waypoint which is the target for no reason I can see it will divert a straight route from a main road round an enclosed lay-by (with entry and exit) and rejoin the main road a deviation of about 200/300 yds. I've even had a route on a motorway where I've been diverted onto a slip road round intersection roundabout and back onto the same motorway and carry on with no waypoints passed in this exercise. Currently if it looks wrong scroll out and ignore and 9 times out of 10 you "get the do U turn"

My Zumo 660 (same device?) does it quite often if I'm not paying attention. Exit off the main road and then straight back on via on/off ramps, roundabouts, lay-bys, service areas etc. and these are NOT waypoints.

The routes are created with Mapsource City Navigator Europe NT 2021.2 and the Zumo is set to Faster Time and avoid unpaved roads. :nenau

A screenshot from earlier this month, the instruction was 'keep right'. Screenshot 2025-09-30 102556.jpg

I get it sometimes on my Nav V and I only use it to put in my destination.

Yep I have had same problem. Only work around for me is zoom in on the route i have loaded into gps and edit with lots of way point to stop it. Not really the best way to solve the problem

Why does it do it though?
I left the Chunnel, in June this year, and headed to Ribeauville, near Colmar, for the night. I only entered my end destination into the Nav V.
Nav V took me off the main road I was on and I then spent 45 mins. on lovely backroads only to re-join the bloody main road it took me off. I then ran into the mother of all thunderstorms with only 5 miles to. If I'd stayed on the main road I was on I'd have been in my hotel warm and dry instead of drowned!!!!

scroll out and ignore. Shite I know but thats what i do sometimes. Does it think it might save you 10 seconds or somthing drives me mad sorry not helpfull really. I feel your pain
