It probably has another name, but anyway...

I'm tempted to get a reconditions Zumo 660 for my new TE, instead of the navigator IV. I know that the jog wheel will not work with it, whic is fine, but the Navigator has that extra piece with the four buttons on the left that the Zumo doesn't have. The Navigator manual says to insert the navigator into the holder for these buttons, suuggesting that the Navigator itself is just like the zumo, and that the buttons are an add-on part.

Is this right and, if so, can you get the buttons (and connector) separately?

Yes, I know it seems a bit cheap to look for a workaround, but given the number of fully fuctioning other GPS units that I have, I'm not tempted to pay £600+ for another one at the moment, so would prefer a workaround at about half of that.

The Nav IV has specific firmware to work with the BMW cradle. A regular 660 won't make use of the buttons and you can't change the firmware to that of the Nav IV.

Sorry :(

Oh well, that's good to know, thanks.

I'm torn between just sticking my Nuvi into a waterproof case (which I already have), and powering it from the front socket now, and getting the 660. I'm not sure that I can bring myself to pay even £350 for a several-year old garmin that's selling at quite a premium over the equivalent car version, based on a bit of waterproofing.

As a data point:

I have a friend who went from a Quest to a 350... Lost the 350 last year in the bike fire...

He just bought the Nav 4 for his new GS (grip buttons).. and defo feels that much of the experience is a downgrade..

I myself have never been impressed with the 660 from day one... (I owned a SP 2820 till I lost it in the fire)

I'm waiting to see what the "770" is like.. or I might buy a 350.. I'm using a hiking GPS and my iPhone presently)

I Have To Agree. I Had A 2610. That Was A Great Unit, Lots Of Configurable Options Including Custom Routing Options.
The Zumo series seems to have a lot less features. I especially miss the custom routing. Now map source has been replaced by Basecamp.

It would appear that Garmin are dumbing down their products.

I think I will be taking a look at Tom Tom for my next satnav.

The Garmin Montana is a million times more configurable than the 660, if you can do without Bluetooth, MP3 player and traffic info then it might be worth a look. Just getting to know mine.
