Navigator V Europe Map Downloading problem..

Hello Everyone,

Can any one help me about the problem written below? I am so inexperienced about the BMW Navigator 5.. I am a new GS rider.. The experienced users comments and recommendations may be helpful for me..

A friend of mine from America bring me a bmw navigator 5 with preinstalled north america map as a gift. I live in Istanbul Turkey. For using the device in my country and in Europe i decided to buy a Europe NT map form garmin website.. I ve just bought a europe nt map last night and tried to download it to my device by the garmin communicator.. i ve connected my device to computer and click on the "add to device" button. But a sign occurs in the page and says that there is not enough space on the storage.. The Europe Nt map is 3.1 GB but there is only 1.6 GB left on the device storage.. and cause of this i can not load the map to my device.. i tried place an micro sd card to my device.. but can not convert it to fat32 format which is a must for bmw navigator 5 according to the user manuel.. I tried format my micro sd card into fat32 but there is no option like that on the formatting menu.. There are two kind of formats avaliable such as NTFS and Exfat..

In these situations i have 2 questions..

1) How Can I delete the preinstalled America map from the device? Actually i do not want to delete it.. I want to back up it if it is possible.. If backing it up is not possible is it avaliable for me to download it whenever i want in the future without paying?

2) How can i convert my micro sd card into fat32 format? İs it possible to download the Europe map into the sd card and use it from there?

I use an iMac and can format to FAT 32 by using the disc utilities function in the applications folder. Not sure if you can do this using windows. If you know someone with a mac they could do it for you.

I suspect that your MicroSD card is greater than 32GB?? If the card is greater than 32GB, Windows won't show fat32 as a format option. You could do what I do and just use a 32GB card. This is a bit more convoluted.... Your nav 5 will probably connect to your PC using MTP auto detect mode. You need to change this to mass storage mode to continue. Follow the instructions here:

Now you can manage the device using a utility found here: http://www.javawa.nl/jdm_en.html

Make sure you have a *complete* backup first!! just to be sure, once it is in mass storage mode, you should be able to copy *all* the files from Windows explorer (including the hidden .System folder and contents) to some location on your PC. I don't know why Garmin makes this so difficult
