Unit was off the bike running under its own power whilst I loaded up maps. Tried to recharge but completely dead, spoke with Garmin and to be fair sent a foc charging kit and would of sent a battery (if they had any). Now faced with 2 options - pay £116 to Garmin for unit to be replaced (with a new battery) or visit a dealer who will hopefully allow me to fit one from a new unit to prove whether it's the battery or the unit. Either way hugely frustrating as you can't just buy a battery online!
Unit is just over 2 years old, so a new battery as a minimum looks likely.
Anyone know what the battery actually costs, because tbh it's likely then to be another delay waiting for BMW to get the actual battery in if I were to go that route.

Thanks Andy

Have you tried removing the battery and then putting it back in? I had this last year with a Garmin 590. I disconnected the battery then reconnected it and it powered up with no further problems.

Yes, tried that a number of times. My concern is that unit was just fine prior to running completely out of charge. Going to contact the eBay guy to confirm battery size. Connector looks identical.

Sorry if I'm teaching egg sucking but have you put it in the bikes cradle and ridden the the bike for a while to see if it will 'bump start' the battery again?
I have always found with the Garmin and BMW navs that they are a bit temperamental when it comes to charging them off the bike.

Does it fail to charge both via USB and in the holder on the bike as it sounds like a poor connection with the battery to me?

Yes both of those. 8 hrs ride on bike and 24hrs on the charger!!

Sorry if you already know this, but it caught me out early in my Nav V ownership. When you switch off the bike with the Nav in the cradle and get the switching off message on the screen, the Nav is actually going into standby. So if you take it off and put it away, it will drain its battery. The only way to actually switch it off is to press cancel, take it out of the cradle, press cancel again so its on, then switch off by the button on the top of the unit. I found this out after not using the unit and the battery was completely flat, call to Garmin told me the above. its been fine since.

Thanks for that...never usually have any problem as previously always left in the cradle. Lesson learned!

If the Zumo 595 is the same battery as the Zumo 590 - then IT IS DIFFERENT from the NAV 5.

A 590 battery today,

Size wise looks spot on. The Nav 5 measures 54*35*10mm. Slight differences in rating though - see attached. Anyone have any advice on if this will work?

The Nav V uses a 7.4 V battery, from the other picture it appears that the 590 battery is only 3.7 V, so is not going to be suitable for the Nav V. From what I have been able to find out it seems that the Zumo 595 also uses a 3.7 V battery, so it looks like there are no Garmin alternatives that have the same physical packaging and voltage as the Nav V battery.

The connector plug is different also. (forgot to mention that in prev post)

Finally sorted

So finally the Nav V has been sorted - no real thanks to Garmin in the end. They do charge £116 for a replacement unit (Garmin Badged only) and despite being told by 2 people there that the Navigator V was their responsibility to fix I was also told by 2 others it was BMW's!

Anyway cut a long story short BMW exchanged a brand new unit as a good will gesture - apparently these units have 2 years warranty and mine was probably over by about 6 months.

Still can't complain at all, guess that whats comes with buying into a premium brand....
